Note: The data on the number of births, marriages and deaths (vital events) presented in this regular monthly release were obtained from the vital events registered, either timely or belatedly, at the appropriate Office of the City/municipal Registrar throughout the country and subsequently submitted for encoding to the Office of the Civil Registrar General through the Provincial Statistical Offices (PSOs) of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
 
Lower registered births as of April 2022 by - 47.7%
  • The preliminary number of registered births from January to March 2022 in the country reached 147,692.
  • With the cut-off date by end of April 2022 for processing of the birth certificates, registered births for the period were lower by - 47.7 percent as compared to the total registered births of 282,577 in the same period in 2021.
  • Among regions, Region IV-A (CALABARZON) recorded the highest number of registered births from January to March 2022 with 24,609 or 16.66 percent of the total of 147,692 registered births in the country.
  • There was a 96.62 percent decrease in the number of registered birth from January 2022 and March 2022.

 

  • The National Capital Region (NCR) registered 20,601 births from January to March 2022, or a -37.5 percent decrease from the 32,941 births registered in the same period in 2021.
  • Among the cities/municipalities in NCR, the City of Manila recorded the highest number of registered births with 4,077 or 19.8 percent of the total births in the region.
  • By province, Cavite recorded the highest number of registered births from January to March 2022 among the provinces at 6,552 or 4.4 percent of the total births in the country
  • The provinces of Pangasinan and Laguna followed with 5,378 (3.6 percent), and 4,812 (3.3 percent) shares, respectively.

 

 

  • There were 3,060 recorded registered births from January to March 2022 in CAR with 39.20 percent decrease compared to same period in 2021.
  • Among the provinces/city in the Cordillera region, Benguet recorded the highest number of registered births with 743 or 24.28 percent share, followed by Baguio City with 605 or 19.77 percent share, and Kalinga with 540 or 17.64 percent share.
  • The number of registered births among the rest of the CAR provinces for the period January to March 2022 were: 461 for Ifugao, 270 for Abra, 227 for Mountain Province, and 214 for Apayao.

 

More male babies are born than females in CAR
 
  • A total of 1,565 male babies were registered in the Cordillera region, contributing 51.14 percent share to the total births in the region, while 1,495 females or48.86 percent were recorded during the period January to February 2022.
  • The top three provinces with the highest number of registered births of both males and females were Benguet with 743, Baguio City with 605, and Kalinga with 540.
  • The province of Benguet had the highest number of recorded registered births of male babies with 361 or 23.00 percent of the total number of male babies registered in the entire region.
  • The province also had the highest number of registered births of female babies with 382 or 25.55 percent of registered births of female babies in CAR.
  • Baguio City came second with the highest number of registered births of male babies with 309 or 19.74 percent to the total registered male births in the region.
  • The province of Kalinga came third with 262 registered male births or 16.74 percent of the total female babies registered in the Cordillera region.

 

TECHNICAL NOTES

Birth Registration - is the official recording of the occurrence of birth of a person in the City/Municipal Civil Registry Office. The birth of a person is one of the vital events that are subject to official registration through an administrative process of the government.
Registering an individual's birth is essential because it establishes a person's existence under the law and lays the foundation for safeguarding civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights. It is a fundamental means of protecting the individual’s human rights. The birth of a child is a special event in a family. This is also the event wherein the child will have a right to have a name through the registration of the child’s birth. As embodied in Article 7 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, a child shall be registered immediately after birth and shall have the right from birth to a name, the right to acquire a nationality, and as far as possible, the right to know and be cared for by their parents.
The data on the number of births (vital events) was obtained from the vital events registered, either timely or belatedly, at the appropriate Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrar throughout the country and subsequently submitted for encoding to the Office of the Civil Registrar General through the Provincial Statistical Offices (PSOs) of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
The information presented includes provisional vital events that occurred from January to March 2022 based on data files received by the PSA - Civil Registration Service (CRS) from the PSOs and processed initially as of 30 April 2022. Thus, the figures presented herein are still preliminary and may differ from the final count. (1) The vital events of Filipinos abroad were not yet included in this release, but Filipinos whose usual residence is abroad and foreign nationals with vital events occurring in the country during the reference period were included in this report. Figures are results of actual registrations without any adjustment of under-registration. Civil Registration is a continuous process. Hence, there is a need to establish certain cut-off period.
