Data on births presented in this special release were obtained from the Certificates of Live Birth submitted by the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars in their monthly report throughout the region to the Philippine Statistics Authority – Provincial Statistical Offices (PSO). Said data were encoded or uploaded into the respective PSOs' Vital Events Information (VEI) system.  

Figures presented herein cover the 1st quarter of 2024 and are still preliminary and may differ in the final counts.

Almost four persons were registered in the region every hour

•    There were 8,191 registered live births in CAR for the 1st quarter of 2024, a decrease of 17.96% from the same period in 2023 with 9,984 registered live births.

•    First quarter of 2024 compared to the same quarter last year showed a decrease in registered live births in almost all provinces and cities. The highest percentage decrease is in Benguet at 36.5% followed by Ifugao at 26.1%, Kalinga at 25%, Apayao at 21.5%, Abra at 20.1%, and Mountain Province at 17.6%.  

•    Baguio City had the most registered live births reported in the 1st quarter of 2024 with 1,693, followed by Benguet with 1,382, Kalinga with 1,265, Apayao with 1,111, Abra with 1,002, Mountain Province with 942, and Ifugao with the lowest registered live births at 796.

•    Baguio City had the highest daily average registered live births with 19 followed by Benguet with 15, Kalinga with 14, Apayao with 12, and Abra with 11. Mountain Province and Ifugao had the lowest daily average registered live births with 10 and 9, respectively.

January had the most registered live births in the region

•    The month of January had the highest number of registered live births with 3,247 in the region followed by March and February with 2,969 and 2,499, respectively.

Baguio City had the highest registered live births in the region

•    Of the two cities in the Cordillera Administrative Region, Baguio City had the greater number of live births registered with 1,693 followed by Tabuk City, Kalinga with 865.

•    The municipality with the most registered live births is La Trinidad, Benguet with 875 followed by Luna, Apayao with 655. Bangued, Abra and Bauko, Mountain Province trailed with 611 and 465, respectively.

Vital statistics are derived from information obtained when the occurrences of vital events and their characteristics are inscribed in a civil register.

Vital acts and events are the births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages, and all such events that have something to do with an individual's entrance and departure from life together with the changes in civil status that may occur to a person during his lifetime. Recording of these events in the civil register is known as vital or civil registration and the resulting documents are called vital records.

Live Birth is the complete expulsion or extraction of a product of conception from its mother, irrespective of the duration of pregnancy, which after such separation, breathes or shows any other evidence of life, such as beating of the heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary muscles, whether or not the umbilical cord has been cut off or the placenta is still attached; each product of such birth is considered alive.
