27 June 2025 - LAGAWE, IFUGAO. The Ifugao Provincial Statistical Office (PSO - Ifugao) is currently conducting a one-day training on the Rice and Corn Stocks Survey (RCSS) and the Palay Production Survey (PPS) and Corn Production Survey (CPS), at the G/F New LMDC Building, Poblacion West, Lagawe, Ifugao. The training aims to prepare hired field personnel to effectively and accurately conduct data collection for these important agricultural surveys.

The RCSS is a monthly survey that gathers data on the volume of rice, corn grain, and corn grits stocks from households, commercial establishments, and non-commercial granaries. It includes a component called the Palay and Corn Stocks Survey (PCSS), which specifically focuses on current stock levels in both farming and non-farming households. On the other hand, the PCPS is conducted quarterly and generates estimates on palay and corn production, area harvested, and yield per hectare. In Ifugao, the PCPS covers sample farming households across different municipalities, with reference periods divided into four quarterly rounds: January–March (April Round), April–June (July Round), July–September (October Round), and October–December (January Round).

The information gathered from these surveys plays a critical role in monitoring the supply and demand of major food staples in the country. It supports decision-making for price stability, rice importation planning, and national food security programs. Specifically, the RCSS provides a snapshot of rice and corn stock inventories at the household and commercial levels, allowing comparisons with stock levels from the same period in the previous month and year. These data help give a broader picture of the country's agricultural situation.

The training is facilitated by Statistical Analyst Gavino A. Mongalini, Jr., and attended by five hired Statistical Researchers who will be deployed for fieldwork. PSA–Ifugao encourages full cooperation from sample households and establishments by providing truthful and complete information to PSA field personnel. As a reminder, all information collected is treated with the utmost confidentiality, in accordance with Section 26 of Republic Act No. 10625 (Confidentiality of Information) and Section 8 of Republic Act No. 10173 or the Data Privacy Act of 2012, and will not be used for taxation, investigation, or law enforcement purposes.
