Registered Births in CAR increased

  • There were a total of 35,700 live births registered in the Cordillera Administrative Region in 2022, an increase of 16.9% from the 30,547 births that were registered in the previous year.

 

  • The number of registered live births showed a declining trend, from 2013 to 2020 before bouncing back up from 2021 to 2022.

 

  • On the average, about 98 babies were born daily, this is equivalent to 4 babies born per hour as compared to 3 babies born in 2021.

Almost all Provinces increased the Number of Registered Live Births

  •  Among the Provinces in the Region, Benguet recorded the highest occurrences of registered live births in 2022 with 5,871, followed by Abra with 4,483.

 

  • The least number of registered live births was recorded in Apayao with 4,015.

 

  • Compared to the previous year, almost all provinces reported an increase in the number of live births registered. The largest percentage increase was in Mountain Province with 39.19%, it was followed by Apayao and Abra with 28.94% and 29.21%, respectively.  On the other hand, Benguet reported a decline of 3.07%.

Most Births Occurred in September

  •  In 2022, most registered births in the Cordillera Administrative Region occurred in the month of September with 3,592. It was followed by the months of November, August, and October with 3,532, 3,304, and 3,266 registered live births respectively.

 

  • The month of April had the least number of births at 2,477 in 2022.

More male babies are born than females in the Region

  • Male babies registered for 2022 had a total of 15,333, accounting for a 51.14 percent share of the total births in the Region, while female births recorded were 17,444. This resulted in a sex ratio of 105 males per 100 females.

 

  • The province of Apayao posted a sex ratio of 109 which was higher than the regional level. Following this were Abra, Baguio City, and Mountain Province which had the same sex ratio of 106. Meanwhile, Benguet had a nearly balanced ratio at 101.

The municipality of Bangued, Abra has the Highest number of Registered Live Births in CAR

  • Of the cities in the Cordillera Administrative Region, Baguio City had the highest number of recorded live births registered at 6,843, followed by Kalinga at 4,435.

 

  • The municipality with the highest number of registered live births was recorded in Bangued, Abra with 2,557 births. This was followed by La Trinidad, Benguet at 2,269, Luna, Apayao at 2,261, and Bauko, Mountain Province, and Lamut, Ifugao at 1,935 and 1,143, respectively.

Live Births by Registration Status

  • Timely registration refers to the registration of births within 30 days of occurrence. In 2022, almost 29 out of every 50 registered live births in CAR were timely.

 

  • Across areas, the city/municipalities that recorded the highest share in timely registered births in 2022 were Baguio City at 26.38 percent, it was followed by Benguet and Kalinga at 16.06 percent and 15.25 percent respectively.

 

  • Only Baguio City had at least 90.0 percent of its births registered within the reglementary period or within 30 days of occurrence. On the other hand, the province of Abra had the highest proportion of late registered at 54.18 percent, followed by Kalinga including the City of Tabuk at 38.20 percent as shown in Figure 5.
