Data on deaths presented in this special release were obtained from the Office of the City/Municipal Registrars throughout the region and submitted to the Philippine Statistics Authority - Regional Statistical Services Office Cordillera Administrative Region (PSA-RSSO CAR) through the Decentralized Vital Statistics System (DVSS) 2021 of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Provincial Offices (POs) of the Cordillera region. Information presented included deaths registered in the 3rd quarter 2021 and in 3rd quarter 2020. Figures presented herein are still preliminary and may differ in the final counts.

Registered Deaths in the Region Increased

  • The Cordillera Administrative Region reported deaths in July to September 2021 reached to 3,709.
  • Table 1 showed an increase of 1,534 or 41.4 percent higher than the same period of the previous year with 2,175 deaths. On the average, there were about 40 registered deaths daily or 2 registered deaths per hour in the Region.
  • All provinces increased in the number of registered deaths in the 3rd quarter of 2021 compared to the 3rd quarter of 2020.

More male deaths than female

From July to September 2021, males accounted for more deaths in the Region  with 2,054 or 55.4 percent. On the other hand there were 1,655 deaths recorded for females which resulted in a sex ratio of 124 male deaths per 100 females deaths.

Deaths Attended by Health Professionals

  • The City of Baguio had the highest recorded deaths attended by Health Professionals with 570 of the total registered deaths in the Region.
  • In Benguet, health professionals attended to 255 deaths,  while Abra had 214 deaths attended by them.
  • Among Provinces, the least registered deaths assisted by heath professional is Ifugao Province with 96 deaths

Corpses in the Region mostly Disposed through Burial

  • For the 3rd Quarter of 2021, there were a total of 3,709 corpses who were buried.
  • The Province of Abra had the greatest number of corpses buried with 18.9 percent deaths, while Apayao has the least number of corpses buried with 8 percent.
  • Cremation is another option for corpse disposal, In the Region, 6.2 percent cremations  were registered in the 3rd quarter of 2021.
  • Baguio City registered 3.9 percent cremated corpses, followed by Benguet with 2.23 percent cremated corpses
