This Special Release presents data on birth certificates registered at the Local Civil Registry Offices in the ten municipalities of the province for the third quarter of 2020 and 2021 and forwarded to the Office of the Civil Registrar General. Data were tabulated from the DVSS. Thus, statistics presented here is preliminary.

Teenage Mothers Decreasing

Based on the result of the tabulation from the Decentralized Vital Statistics System (DVSS) of the Philippine Statistics Authority, teenage mothers in Mountain Province reached 54 in the 3rd quarter of 2021. This is 6.90 percent lower than the recorded teenage mothers in the same quarter in 2020 at 58. In the 3rd quarter of 2019, the figure is at 91.

About Four in Every Ten Teenage Mothers are Listed in Paracelis

By municipality, Bauko recorded the most number at 20 teenage moms in the 3rd quarter of 2021 which is 37.04 percent of the total teenage mothers listed in the province. This means that about four in every ten teenage mothers in the province is registered in Paracelis. This is followed by Bauko at 14 teenage mothers or 25.93 percent share and the Capital Town Bontoc at 6 or 11.11 percent. Same trend is observed in the same quarter of 2020.
 
It is also observed that the number of teenage mothers in Paracelis and Bauko decreased from the 3rd quarter of 2021 to the same quarter of 2020 while the number of teenage mothers in Bontoc and Sadanga remained the same. There is no recorded teenage mom in Tadian.
 

14-Year-Old Girl- Youngest Mother

The youngest age of a mother that gave birth in the third quarter of 2021 is 14 years old. In the same quarter last year, the youngest age of a mother that gave birth is 13 years old.
 
According to birth order, the youngest mother who already gave birth to her 2nd child is 17 years old and for her fourth child is 19 years old. In the same quarter of 2020, the youngest mother who bore her 2nd child is 16 years old.

Males Slightly Outnumbered Females in Terms of Registered Births

There were more males that were born in Mountain Province in the third quarter of 2021 at 417 births. This is 3.60 percent higher than the female births at 402.
 
The high difference of male births to their female counterparts in Bauko contributed to the higher number of male births in the province. Paracelis registered 20 more males than females while Tadian has 4 more boys than girls.
 
It is also observed that Sagada posted the highest number of female difference as it registered 5 more females than male births. Natonin registered the same number of male and female births.
 
 
About Eight in Every Ten Births are Timely Registered
 
Of the 819 registered births in the province in the third quarter of 2021, 634 births or 77.41 percent were timely registered. Bauko having the most number of births recorded 320 timely registered births. Four municipalities- Natonin, Sabangan, Sadanga and Tadian had more late than timely registrations.
 
Paracelis on the other hand has the highest proportion of late registration for birth. Of the 164 births registered in this municipality, 72 births are late registrations.
 
According to sex, 77.94 percent of the male births are timely registered while 76.87 percent timely registration for females. For Sadanga, all male births are late registration while all female births in Tadian are late registration too.
 

About Three in Every Ten Births in the Province are Illegitimate

Of the 819 births in the province in the 3rd quarter of 2021, 238 births or 29.06 percent are illegitimate. This means that about three in every ten babies was born out of wedlock.
 
Categorizing by sex, illegitimate births are slightly higher among male babies than females. 29.26 percent of all the male births registered are illegitimate. In comparison, 28.86 percent of all female births are also born to unmarried parents.
 
Of the different municipalities, four in every ten births in Paracelis are illegitimate while all births registered in the quarter in Tadian are legitimate.
 
About Two in Every One Hundred Births are Twins
 
According to type of birth, 804 babies or 98.17 percent of all the births in the province in the 3rd quarter of 2021 are single. The remaining 1.83 percent are twin births.
 
About Three in Every Ten Births are First Born
 
According to birth order, 26.37 percent are first born children. This translates to about three in every ten births in the province in the 3rd quarter are first born. In addition, 26.50 percent are 2nd born and 20.39 percent are third born babies.
 
It is also observed that there is one who gave birth to her 11th child and this is recorded in Paracelis
 
Seven in Every Ten Births in the Province Are Attended by a Physician
 
Of the total number of births registered in the province, 70.70 percent are attended by physicians; 6.11 percent are attended by midwives and 0.98 percent are attended by nurses. The remaining percentage are either attended by hilot and others.
 
About Three in Every Ten Mothers Who Gave Birth is 25 to 29 Years Old
 
Of the total women who gave birth in the 3rd quarter of 2021, 25.40 percent are under the age group 25 to 29 years old. This is followed by age group 20 to 24 years old at 21 percent and age group 30-34 years old at 19.29 percent.
 
According to single year, the highest number of mothers who gave birth this quarter are those aged 30 years old. It is also noted that there is a girl aged 10 to 14 years old who already gave birth in the 3rd quarter of this year.
