This special release presents statistics on vital events occurring for the second quarter of 2023 in the province Ifugao. This publication shows the total registered birth, marriage, and death statistics by registration status, sex, legitimacy status, age, type of ceremony, and place type. The civil registry documents transmitted monthly by the Local Civil Registry Office (LCRO) to Ifugao Provincial Statistical Office for machine processing served as the source of data in preparation of this special release.

In the second quarter of 2023, the province of Ifugao accumulated a total of 1,392 civil registry documents. Birth took the highest number of recorded documents with 907 registered live births or 65.16% of the total registry documents, followed by Marriage with 292 recorded documents or 20.98% of the total registry documents. Death took the lowest recorded documents with 193 or 13.86% of the total registry documents in the province of Ifugao.

Compared in the first quarter, the total number of registered civil registry documents in the second quarter is lower by 14.76%. Birth registration is also lower by 12.37%, Marriage registration is lower by 26.62%, and death registration is lower by 12.84%.

BIRTH REGISTRATION

The province of Ifugao has recorded a total of 907 registered live births for the second quarter of 2023, the municipality of Lamut recorded the highest registered births with 26.57%, followed by Alfonso Lista and Kiangan with 19.64% and 12.68%, respectively. Hingyon recorded the lowest registered live births with 0.99%.

By gender status, male registration has accumulated a total of 452 or 49.83% of the total birth registration, while 455 were recorded on female registration or 50.17% of the total birth registration in the province of Ifugao. There was more female registration than male registration for the second quarter of 2023.

By municipality, Lamut has the highest record on male and female registration, followed by the municipalities of Alfonso Lista, and Kiangan. Hingyon has the lowest record on male and female registration.

During the second quarter, Ifugao has recorded a total of 61 teenage mothers. Comparing from the total during the first quarter, the total of teenage mothers was lower by 30.7%.

The youngest mother for the province of Ifugao for the second quarter was 14 years old. During the first quarter, the youngest was 15 years old. Both were recorded in the municipality of Lamut.

For the second quarter of 2023, a total of 575 were registered within the reglementary period of thirty days or 63.40% of the total registered live births. A total of 332 were registered after the reglementary period, some of it were registered through the PBRAP or Philsys Birth Registration Assistance Project wherein this project aims to register unregistered and/or delayed births.

Delayed registered births totaled to 332 or 36.60% of the total registered live births. The municipality of Lamut recorded the highest timely registered births, while the municipality of Alfonso Lista recorded the highest delayed registration.

By place of birth, a total of 555 were born at different medical facilities like hospitals, rural health units and birthing clinics or 61.19% of the total registered live births. Home births totaled to 352 or 38.81% of the total registered live births.

The municipality of Lamut has the highest recorded births on medical facilities, while the municipality of Alfonso Lista has the highest registered home births.

 

MARRIAGE REGISTRATION

The province of Ifugao has recorded a total of 292 registered marriages for the second quarter of 2023, the municipality of Alfonso Lista recorded the highest registered marriages with 17.8%, followed by Banaue and Lamut with 16.1% and 13.4%, respectively. While Hingyon and Hungduan recorded the lowest registered marriages both with 4.8%.

By registration status, a total of 289 were registered within the reglementary period of 30 days taking 99% of the total registered marriages. Only three marriages were late registered.

Among the types of ceremonies, wedding rites officiated by the Roman Catholic Church had a total of 73 or 25% of the total registered marriages. The civil wedding rites had a total of 91 or 31.16%. Wedding rites officiated by other religious rites totaled 128 or 43.84% of the total registered births. There was no occurrence of weddings solemnized by any tribal religion.

For wedding rites officiated by the Roman Catholic Church, the municipality of Lamut recorded the highest. Whilst the municipality of Banaue totaled the highest for Civil wedding rites. The municipality of Alfonso Lista also recorded the highest for wedding rites officiated by other religious rites.

For the total registered marriages by place type, weddings held at the church recorded a total of 155 or 53.08% of the total registered marriages. Weddings held at the mayor’s office recorded a total of 77 or 26.37% of the total registered marriages. A total also of 44 were held at home with 15.07% and 16 were held at other specified places with 5.48%. 

Moreover, the municipality of Alfonso Lista has the highest record of church weddings. The municipality of Banaue has the highest record of weddings held at the mayor’s office. For home weddings, Asipulo recorded the highest. There were also records of marriages held at other specified places wherein Banaue has the highest record.

DEATH REGISTRATION

The province of Ifugao has recorded a total of 193 registered deaths for the second quarter of 2023, the municipality of Alfonso Lista recorded the highest registered deaths with 22.3%, followed by Lamut and Kiangan with 17.1% and 12.9%, respectively. Hungduan recorded the lowest registered live births with 3.6%.

By gender disaggregation, a total of 111 registrations were male and 82 were female. The municipality of Alfonso Lista recorded the highest male and female death registration.

For the total registered deaths by civil status, deaths with single status were at 19.17%, married at 51.81% and widow/widowers with 29.02%.

The municipality of Lamut has the highest number of registered deaths with single statuses, while the municipality of Alfonso Lista has the highest number of registered deaths with married and widow/widower statuses.

Among the total registered deaths by place type, registered deaths that occurred at home recorded the highest with a total of 154 or 79.79% of the total registered deaths. A total of 39 was recorded deaths at the hospital or 20.21% of the total registered deaths. There was no record of death that happened on other specified places.

The municipality of Lamut registered the highest number of deaths that occurred at the hospital with 46.2%, while the municipality of Alfonso Lista registered the highest number of deaths that happened at home with 22.7%.

There was a total of 153 registered deaths that was unattended by medical authorities or 79.3% of the total registered deaths for the second quarter of 2023. Meanwhile, a total of 40 or 20.7% registered deaths were attended by medical authorities. Therefore, deaths unattended by medical authorities was higher than deaths attended by medical authorities.

For the registration status, the municipality of Alfonso Lista has the highest number of timely registered deaths while the municipalities of Kiangan, Lagawe, Lamut and Tinoc has the highest numbers of late registrations on death. Thus, almost all the registered deaths in the province of Ifugao was timely registered within the reglementary period of 30 days. 

 

 

DEFINITION OF TERMS

Vital Statistics are derived from information obtained at the time when the occurrences of vital events and their characteristics are inscribed in a civil register.

Vital acts and events are the births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages and all such events that have something to do with an individual’s entrance and departure from life together with the changes in civil status that may occur to a person during his lifetime. Recording of these events in the civil registration and the resulting documents are called vital records.

Municipal Form No. 102 (Certification of Live Birth) is the prescribed form being used for the declaration of facts and circumstances surrounding the birth of a person for purpose of registration.

Municipal Form No. 103 (Certification of Death) is the prescribed form being used for the declaration of facts and circumstances surrounding the death of a person for purposes of registration.

Municipal Form No. 97 (Certification of Marriage) is used to record information pertaining to the marriage of the contracting parties. It contains information regarding the groom and the bride.

Live Birth is a complete expulsion or extraction from its mother of a product of conception, irrespective of the duration of the pregnancy, which after such separation breathes or shows any other evidence of life, such as beating of the heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary muscles, whether or not the umbilical cord has been cut or the placenta is attached; each product of such a birth is considered live born.

Marriage is contract of permanent union between man and a woman entered into in accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and family life.

Death refers to the permanent disappearance of all evidence of life at any time after live births has taken place (postnatal cessation of vital function without capability of resuscitation).

Foetal death refers to death prior to the complete expulsion or extraction of a product of conception from its mother, irrespective of the duration of pregnancy.

Legitimate refers to a child conceived or born during a valid marriage of parents.

Illegitimate refers to a child conceived and born outside of a valid marriage of parents.

 

This release contains statistical tables and graphs encompassing the vital event – births, marriages & deaths occurring in the province of Ifugao.

 

Data on births, deaths and marriages presented in this release were obtained from the Certificate of Live Birth (Municipal Form 102), Certificate of Death (Municipal Form 103) and Certificate of Marriage (Municipal Form No. 97) that were registered at the Office of the Municipal Civil Registrars and forwarded to the Philippine Statistics Authority - Provincial Statistical Office in Ifugao. Information included births, deaths and marriages registered in April to June 2023.
