BAGUIO CITY – To kick off the celebration of femininity, the Philippine Statistics Authority in Benguet organized a variety of activities in honor of Women’s Month this March. The theme for this year is “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas.”
On March 3, the office hosted a revitalizing trekking activity on the Camp John Hay Yellow Trail. This event aimed to promote physical well-being and foster team building among the employees.
Additionally, Registration Officer II Tagaban Aquino empowered participants in the kitchen by leading a culinary workshop where they prepared Pasta Puttanesca, an Italian dish that originated in the city of Naples, likely dating back to the mid-20th century or earlier.

Registration Officer II Tagaban Aquino led the culinary workshop, cooking Pasta Puttanesca as part of the activity on the Women’s Month Celebration.
This celebration is under the Proclamation No. 227 s. 1988 by President Corazon C. Aquino, declaring March as “Women's Role in History Month. As to the Philippine Commission on Women, the country celebrates the National Women’s Month which was deeply rooted in the global commemoration of the International Women’s Day on March 8.
“[This activity] is a tradition born from the early 20th-century activism of women advocating for labor rights and gender equality. Between 1909 and 1911, working women in the United States, united under the National Women’s Trade Union League and other groups, rallied against low wages, insufficient protective legislation, and harsh working conditions,” the commission wrote.
“These protests were intensified by the tragic Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire in March 1911 in New York City, which claimed the lives of over 140 young women, predominantly Italian and Jewish immigrants. This devastating event exposed the dire working conditions and exploitation faced by women workers, fueling annual IWD observances that shed light on labor injustices,” the commission added.
