The Philippine Statistics Authority-Cordillera Administrative Region (PSA-CAR) conducted the Online Dissemination of the April 2023 Cordillera Inflation Rate (IR) and Consumer Price Index (CPI) today, 24 May 2023 via Zoom. This was participated by Regional Line Agencies (RLAs), Local Government Units (LGUs), academe, and the media.
PSA-CAR Statistical Specialist II Kay Angelika M. Castro reported that the April 2023 inflation rate of the region was 1.3 percentage points lower than the previous month at 5.6 percent. The inflation rate in CAR dropped to 4.3 percent due to lower prices in Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, Food and non-alcoholic beverages, and Transport commodity groups. Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels decreased to 0.4 percent in March 2023 from 2.2 percent in March 2023. This was followed by the percentage decrease in Food and non-alcoholic beverages with 7.2 percent in April 2023 from 8.4 percent in the previous month. Transport came next with 4.1 percent in April 2023 from 8.4 percent in March 2023.
Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Deputy Director of the Department of Economic Statistics Haydee R. Paulino provided her inputs as a discussant during the dissemination forum. She prepared a presentation discussing the overview of nationwide and CAR inflation, factors that contribute to the inflation trend, BSP’s role in managing inflation, and policy actions to combat high inflation.
