As of May 1, 2020, the population of Lubuagan is 9,369 based on 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH). The official count is declared by the President of the Philippines under Proclamation No. 1179 dated July 6, 2021.
 
The 2020 population of Lubuagan is higher by 590 as compared to the population in 2015 which is 8,733, but lower by 46 compared with the population in 2010 with 9,369. (table 1)
 
Among the eight (8) city/municipalities of the province, the municipality of Lubuagan is the 2nd with least population with 9,323 persons, comprising of 4.06 percent of the total population of the province.

From 2015 to 2020, the annual population growth rate of Lubuagan is 1.38 percent, higher by 2.71 percent as compared from 2010 to 2015 with -1.33 annual population growth rate. (Table 2)

The municipality of Lubuagan is composed of nine (9) barangays. Among the nine (9) barangays, eight (8) barangays or 88.89 percent increased in population as compared to 2015 population. Only barangay Antonio Canao decreased in population from 912 in 2015 to 877 in 2020. There were four (4) barangays of Lubuagan that have more than 1000 population in 2020. These were barangays Dangoy, Mabilong, Poblacion and Uma Del Norte with 1337, 1479, 1444 and 1214 persons respectively. No barangays in Lubuagan that have less than 500 population. (Table 3).

Among the nine (9) barangays in the municipality of Lubuagan, the largest in terms of population size is Mabilong with 1,479 persons. It was followed by Poblacion with 1,444 persons, Dangoy ranked 3rd with 1337 persons. The combined population of these three barangays accounted for about 45.69 percent of the total population of Lubuagan in 2020. (Table 4).

Barangay Mabongtot was the least populous barangay in the municipality of Lubuagan with 637 persons. It was followed by Tanglag with 684 persons and Lower Uma belongs to top three least populous barangays with 801 persons. (Table 5).

The total land area of Lubuagan is 234.20 square kilometers and the population density of Lubuagan in 2020 was posted at 40 persons per square kilometer. This represents an increase of 3 persons per square kilometer in five (5) years time. In 2010, there were about 40 persons in every square kilometer of land in the municipality (Table 6).

The population figures in this report were based on the results of the 2020 CPH. The land areas were based on the 2013 Masterlist of land Areas of Cities and Municipalities provided to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) by the Land Management Bureau (LMB).
