Fisheries production lower by 37.8 percent

During the third quarter of 2021, fisheries production was recorded at 58.13 metric tons, lower by 37.8 percent from its 2020 same quarter production of 93.44 metric tons. Diminishing volume of production was noted during the same period from 2019 to 2021. (Figure 1, and Tables 1 and 2)

All species in the province recorded a reduction in production for the third quarter of 2021. Tilapia contributed the biggest share at 79.6 percent to the total production of fisheries far followed by carp at 5.8 percent. Freshwater clams (Tulya) and white shrimp contributed the least share at 0.4 percent each. (Figure 2 and Table 1)
 
By subsector, production from inland municipal fisheries and aquaculture farms comprised 68.9 percent and 31.1 percent, respectively, of the province’ total fisheries production. (Figure 3 and Table 2)

Catch from inland municipal fisheries reported a reduction of 48.9 percent during the third quarter of 2021. From the 35.4 metric tons production in the same period of 2020, it decreased to 18.10 metric tons this quarter. (Figure 4 and Table 2)
 
By classification of inland fisheries, fish contributed the biggest share at 86.6 percent or 15.68 metric tons to total inland fisheries production. It was followed by molluscs at 8.0 percent or 1.45 metric tons, and crustaceans at 5.4 percent or 0.94 metric tons. (Figure 5 and Table 3)

The total volume of harvests from aquaculture farms went down by 31.0 percent. The output was posted at 40.03 metric tons during the period from the 58.04 metric tons in the same period of the previous year. (Figure 6 and Table 4)
 
By aquaculture farm type, production from freshwater fishpond contributed 97.9 percent which represents 39.18 metric tons to total aquaculture production. The remaining 2.1 percent or 0.85 metric tons were from freshwater cage. Of all the species in aquaculture farming, tilapia contributed the biggest share of 99.8 percent or 39.95 metric tons.
