Data on deaths presented in this special release were obtained from the Office of the City/Municipal Registrars throughout the region and submitted to the Philippine Statistics Authority - Regional Statistical Services Office Cordillera Administrative Region (PSA-RSSO CAR) through the Decentralized Vital Statistics System (DVSS) 2021 of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Provincial Offices (POs) of the Cordillera region. Information presented included deaths registered in the 4th quarter 2021 and in 4th quarter 2020. Figures presented herein are still preliminary and may differ in the final counts.

 

Registered Deaths in the Region Increased

  • A total of 4,069 deaths were registered in the Cordillera Administrative Region during the 4th quarter of 2021. The figure indicated an increase of 45.24 percent death occurrence from the 2020 figure of 2,228.
  • On the average, there were about 44 registered deaths daily or 2 registered deaths per hour in the Region.
  • The province of Benguet recorded the most number of registered deaths during the 4th quarter of 2021, with a total of 1,050 or 25.8 percent share of the total registered deaths in the region. Baguio City followed with 970 registered deaths, Abra with 565, Kalinga with 407, Ifugao with 406 and Apayao with 317.

More male deaths than female

  • There were more death occurences among males which accounted for 56.06 percent of the recorded events in the region for this quarter. This resulted in a sex ratio of 128 male deaths per 100 female deaths.

Deaths Attended by Health Professionals

  • Out of the 4,069 registered deaths for the 4th quarter of 2021, 43.3 percent or 1,762 registered deaths were attended by medical authorities. The remaining 56.7 percent or 2,307 registered deaths did not get medical administration.
  • Across areas, Baguio City had the highest recorded deaths attended by Health Professionals with about 39 percent of every 100 registered deaths in the Region.
  • In Benguet, health professionals attended to 345 deaths,  while Apayao had 184 deaths attended by them.
  • Among Provinces, the least registered deaths assisted by heath professional is Kalinga Province with 107 deaths.

Corpses in the Region mostly Disposed through Burial

  • For the 4th Quarter of 2021, 93 in every 100 corpses were buried.
  • The Province of Benguet disposed corpses through burial recorded at 87 percent.
  • Cremation is another choice for corpse disposal, In the Region, 5.8 percent cremations  were registered in the 4th quarter of 2021.
  • Benguet registered 2.9 percent cremated corpses, followed by Baguio City with 2.4 percent cremated corpses.
