This Special Release presents data on death certificates registered at the Local Civil Registry Offices in the ten municipalities of the province for the second quarter of 2020 and 2021 and forwarded to the Office of the Civil Registrar General. Data were tabulated from the DVSS. Thus, statistics presented here is preliminary.
 
Number of Registered Deaths in Mountain Province is Soaring High
 
Based on the result of the tabulation from the Decentralized Vital Statistics System (DVSS) of the Philippine Statistics Authority, registered deaths in Mountain Province reached 327 in the 2nd quarter of 2021. This is alarming since it is 70.31 percent higher than the recorded deaths in the same quarter last year at just 192. In 2019 of the same quarter, the figure is at 230.
 
Three in Every Ten Deaths in the Province are Registered in Bauko
 
According to records by municipality, Bauko recorded the most number of deaths in the 2nd quarter at 110 which is 33.34 percent of the total deaths listed in the province. This means that about 3 in every ten deaths in Mountain Province is recorded in this municipality. This is followed by Bontoc at 53 deaths or 16.21 percent of the total and Paracelis at 50 or 15.29 percent. Besao registered the least number at just 8 deaths. Same trend is observed in the same quarter of 2020.
 
 
A huge increase in deaths is observed in the top 3 municipalities. Deaths in Bauko soared to as high as 103.70 percent since its registered deaths of 54 in the 2nd quarter of 2020 flew to 110 in the same quarter this year.
Same trend is seen in Paracelis as its 26 deaths in the 2nd quarter of 2020 increased to 50 or 92.31 percent on the same quarter this year. In like manner, deaths in Bontoc rose to 39.47 percent.
 
More Male Deaths are Recorded in the Province
 
Of the 327 deaths in Mountain Province during the 2nd quarter of this year, 54.13 percent are males. Only 4 municipalities have more male deaths than their female counterpart but the high difference of the 2 sexes in the municipality of Bauko brought the overall increase in terms of provincial data. Natonin is the only municipality with the same number of male and female deaths. In 2020, male deaths are still higher than the female deaths.
 
Four in Every Ten Male Deaths are Registered in Bauko
 
Comparing the records of the different municipalities of Mountain Province in terms of male deaths, 68 male deaths or 38.42 percent are registered in Bauko. This means that about 4 in every 10 deaths happened in Bauko. Paracelis come next at 31 male deaths and Bontoc at 22 male deaths. For female deaths, Bauko is still the topnotcher. About 3 in every 10 female deaths in the province is listed in this municipality.

About Nine in Every Ten Deaths are Registered Timely
 
According registration status, 93.58 percent of all the registered deaths in the province for the 2nd quarter are registered timely. Death records in Barlig, Besao, Sadanga and Tadian are all timely registered while the highest number of late registrations are recorded in Paracelis.
 
Female Deaths Have a Higher Proportion in Terms of Late Registration
 
According to sex and registration status, more late registration is seen for female deaths. Of the total female deaths registered in the 2nd quarter, 7.33 percent are late registration. For male deaths, late registration is at 5.65 percent.
 
About Five in Every Ten Deaths are Married
 
According to marital status of the dead, 154 or 47.09 percent are married; 35.78 percent are widow/ widower; and 17.13 percent are single. A different trend is seen for Bontoc. Of the 53 deaths recorded in this municipality, 25 or 47.17 percent are widowed/ widower; 32.08 percent are married and the remaining percentage are single.
 
According to sex, about 6 in every 10 male deaths are married. For female deaths, one half of them are widowed and the highest number is registered in Bauko.
 
 
About Two in Every One Hundred Deaths in the Province are Less than 1 Year Old
 
Of the total registered deaths in the province for the 2nd quarter, 8 or 2.45 percent are less than 1 years old. This is 2.81 percent lower than the recorded deaths of less than 1-year old babies in the same quarter of 2020 at 5.26 percent. According to registration status of these baby deaths, all are registered timely.
 
About Fifteen in Every One Hundred Deaths are Aged 85 to 89 Years Old
 
According to age group, most of the deaths in the 2nd quarter are from age group 85 to 89 years old. 48 deaths or 14.68 percent are listed in this age group. This is followed by age group 75 to 79 years at 9.79 percent.
 
Of the 85 to 89 years old whose death certificates are registered in the 2nd quarter, 41.67 percent are males while 58.33 percent are females. In the same quarter of 2020, the highest number of deaths are recorded by age group 80 to 84 years with 25 deaths.
 
About Seven in Every Ten Deaths Occur at Home
 
According to place type, majority of the deaths in the 2nd quarter occurred at home with 224 deaths or 68.50 percent. This is lower by 3.38 percent compared to the deaths that happened at home in the same quarter last year.
 
Bauko is the highest contributor of deaths that occurred at home with 19.27 percent followed by Paracelis at 18.30 percent. All deaths in Barlig, Sadanga and Tadian happened at home. By sex, 51.79 percent of the deaths that occurred at home are males while 48.21 percent are females.
 
About Three in Every Ten Deaths are Attended by Hospital Authority
 
Of the registered deaths in the 2nd quarter of 2021, 100 or 30.58 percent are attended by hospital authority. Majority of which are registered in Bauko. This is higher by 5.58 percent compared to the same quarter last year.
