Release Date:

IFUGAO FISHERY SITUATION

Fourth Quarter, 2021

HIGHLIGHTS

The Fishery production in Ifugao, as of the 2021 Fourth Quarter increased by 30.5 percent compared to its total production in the same period a year ago. The increased attributed to the abundant of water supply which is essential in fishpond operation. The acquisition of quality tilapia fingerlings jacked up the production during the stocking and rearing particularly on Freshwater cage and Freshwater fishpond production. The produced increased to 880.10 metric tons from 611.87 metric tons, gaining over 268.23 metric tons to its 2020 Fourth Quarter total production.

Fishery production uptick by 30.5 percent

The Fishery production in Ifugao still ranked number one in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) as of the 4th quarter of 2021. Ifugao accounted for 66.95 percent or 880.10 metric tons of the region’s total produced of 1,314.48 metric tons

The produced went up to 880.10 metric tons in the 4th quarter of 2021 from 611.87 metric tons in the same period a year ago, showing 30.5 percent rate increased, as shown in table 1. The abundant water supply which was essential in the fishpond operation and easing of Covid-19 protocols allowed the fishpond operators to look outside the province of a quality tilapia fingerlings for the stocking and rearing which was contributed big in the increased of production, thus resulted into a positive growth production in the province.

Figure 1, illustrates the disaggregated variables or culture type comprising aquaculture sub-sector wherein Freshwater fishpond increased by 33.6 percent or 244.91 metric tons in the 4th quarter 2021 compared to 162.63 metric tons in the same  period  last  year.  Likewise, Freshwater cage also increased by 30.4 percent or 615.48 metric tons in the 4th quarter 2021 from 428.16 metric tons in the same period a year ago.

It also noted a decreased in Inland Municipal Fishery production. This may be due to limited fishing mandays due to pandemic, climate change and poor breeding areas in rivers and in waterways.
