Data on marriages presented in this special release were obtained from the Certificates of Marriage submitted by the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars in their monthly report throughout the region to the Philippine Statistics Authority – Provincial Statistical Offices (PSO). Said data were encoded or uploaded into the respective PSOs' Vital Events Information (VEI) system.  
 

Figures presented herein cover the 1st quarter of 2024 and are still preliminary and may differ in the final counts.

 

On the average, 26 marriages were registered daily in the region

•    The CAR registered a total of 2,371 marriages for the 1st quarter of 2024, a decrease of 18.24% from the same quarter of last year’s figure of 2,900.

•    There is a decrease in the number of marriages registered in the Region across all provinces for the 1st quarter of 2024 from the same period last year, except for Kalinga which had an increase of 2.09%.

•    Among the provinces, Benguet excluding Baguio City had the highest number of registered marriages corresponding to 24.38% of the total in the Region followed by Abra at 15.14%. The Province of Apayao recorded the least number of registered marriages at 6.45%.

January was the preferred month for marriages in the region

•    Most grooms and brides in the Cordillera Administrative Region preferred to marry in January for the 1st quarter of 2024. On the contrary, February is the least likely.

•    February had the least number of recorded marriages in the Region at 28.72% for the 1st quarter.

Most of the municipalities with the greatest percentage of registered marriages in the region are found in Benguet

•    Among the municipalities, those in Benguet had the region’s most registered marriages. La Trinidad represents 9.32%, Buguias with 4.46%, Itogon by 3.94%, Tuba and Mankayan at 3.36% and 2.95 %, respectively.

•    Baguio City had the higher proportion of the number of registered marriages among the two cities in the region with 78.26% while the City of Tabuk at 21.74%.

Municipalities with the least number of registered marriages 

•    During the 1st quarter of 2024, the province of Abra had the most municipalities with the least number of marriages registered, ranging from one to five.

Vital statistics are derived from information obtained at the time when the occurrences of vital events and their characteristics are inscribed in a civil register.

Vital acts and events are the births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages, and all such events that have something to do with an individual's entrance and departure from life together with the changes in civil status that may occur to a person during his lifetime. Recording of these events in the civil register is known as vital or civil registration and the resulting documents are called vital records.

Marriage is a special contract of permanent union between a man and a woman entered into in accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and family life. 

Marriage Statistics Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) 2nd Quarter 2024

There were 2,128 registered marriages for the 2nd quarter of 2024 showing a decrease of 13 percent from the same quarter of last year’s figure of 2,443.
