Headline Inflation

The headline inflation or overall inflation of the city for the bottom 30% income household eased to 2.2 percent in June 2025 from 2.8 in the previous month. In June 2024, the inflation rate was 4.8 percent. (Figure 1, and Tables A and B)

The top three main drivers to the downtrend were the following:
a.    Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, 2.4 percent from 4.3 percent;
b.    Personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services, 2.2 percent from 2.7 percent; and
c.    Clothing and footwear,1.0 percent from 1.2 percent.
Alcoholic beverages and tobacco also decreased from 2.7 percent from 2.9 percent. Meanwhile, increases were also noted on the following commodity groups:
a.    Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance, 3.9 percent from 3.6 percent; 
b.    Health, 5.1 percent from 5.0 percent;
c.    Transport, 1.6 percent from 1.4 percent; and
d.    Recreation, sports and culture, 1.6 percent from 1.1 percent,
The indices of the rest of the commodity groups retained their respective previous month’s annual rates.

Main Contributors to the Headline Inflation

The top three commodity groups contributing to the June 2025 overall inflation were the following:
a.    Food and non-alcoholic beverages; 
b.    Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels; and
c.    Personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services.

Food Inflation


Food inflation at the city for the bottom 30% income household further increased to 2.0 percent in June 2025 from 1.9 percent in the previous month. In June 2024, food inflation was at 5.5 percent. (Table C)


Main Drivers to the Downward Trend of Food Inflation


The acceleration of food inflation in June 2025 was primarily brought about by Fruits and nuts with 18.0 percent from 11.3 percent in the previous month. This was followed by Fish and other seafood with 7.0 percent and 4.9 percent, and Cereal and cereal products with -1.8 percent from -1.9 percent. 


Oils and fats also increased from 5.8 percent to 6.4 percent. In contrast, lower inflation rates were noted on the following:
a.    Meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals, 6.1 percent from 6.3 percent; 
b.    Milk, other dairy products and eggs, 3.4 percent from 4.0 percent;
c.    Vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses, -5.7 percent from -2.0 percent; and
d.    Ready-made food and other food products n.e.c., 2.3 percent from 2.9 percent.
The rest of the commodity groups remained at their previous inflation rates.


Main Contributors to the Food Inflation


The top three food groups in terms of contribution to the food inflation during the month were the following:
a.    Meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals;
b.    Fish and other seafood; and
c.    Fruits and nuts.
