Baguio City

Inflation in the city for the bottom 30% income households increased to 4.8 percent in June 2024, from 4.5 percent in May 2024. In June 2023, inflation was lower at 4.9 percent. (Table B and Figure 2)

The main driver in the uptrend of inflation for this income group in June 2024 was housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels at 4.9 percent, from 3.6 percent in the previous month. This was followed by personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services at 2.9 percent from 2.7 percent, and clothing and footwear at 1.2 percent, from the 1.1 percent in the previous month.  

On the contrary, decreases were recorded on the following:
a.    Alcoholic beverages and tobacco, 4.8 percent from 5.5 percent;
b.    Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance, 2.4 percent from 3.1 percent; and
a.    Recreation, sport and culture, -0.7 percent from -0.3 percent.

The rest of the commodity groups retained their indices.


Food Inflation


Food inflation for the bottom 30% income households at the provincial remained at 5.9 percent in June 2024. In June 2023, its annual increase was observed at 9.1 percent. 


Increases were observed in the index of the following:
a.    Meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals, 3.3 from 0.8 percent;
b.    Milk, other dairy products and eggs, 1.4 percent from -0.5 percent; 
c.    Oils and fats, -2.3 percent from -3.4 percent; and
d.    Ready-made food and other food products, 5.7 percent from 5.6 percent.

On the other hand, decreases were recorded on the following:
a.    Cereal and cereal products, 12.5 percent from 12.6 percent;
b.    Fish and other seafood, -0.8 percent from 1.1 percent;
c.    Fruits and nuts, 5.1 percent from 7.1 percent;
d.    Vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses, 2.9 percent from 3.5 percent; and
e.    Sugar, confectionery and desserts, -5.4 percent from 5.3 percent.
