The Philippine Statistics Authority – Cordillera Administrative Region (PSA-CAR) conducted the Second Level Training on Crops Production Survey (CrPS) at Ritz Hotel, Legarda Road, Baguio City last February 28 to March 02, 2023.
The PSA generates production-related statistics on crops other than palay and corn through the CrPS. This is a quarterly survey which aims to generate basic production statistics for crops at the national and sub-national levels. Twenty (20) major crops under the Other Crops sub-sector were highlighted in the performance of Philippine Agriculture Report (PAR). It covers more than 280 crops sub-classified under three commodity groupings, namely: 1) Non-Food and Industrial Crops, 2) Fruit Crops, and 3) Vegetables. The commodity coverage by province differs and depends on what each province produces. After the collection and organization of statistics on Other Crops, these undergo review and validation processes before finally made available to data users.
Production data generated from the CrPS are inputs to the Value of Production in Philippine Agriculture and Fisheries and accordingly to the preparation of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Moreover, the survey supports the data needs of planners, policy and decision-makers, and other stakeholders in the agriculture sector particularly the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Department of Agriculture (DA) and its attached agencies such as Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) and Philippine Council for Agriculture and Fisheries (PCAF).
PSA-CAR Supervising Statistical Specialist Warren B. Mamanteo and Assistant Statistician Nico L. Pagaduan served as the resource speakers during the training. The participants were the fisheries provincial Focal Persons (FPs) together with the alternate FPs of the six (6) provinces in CAR. The objective of the training primarily aims to equip participants, and to provide information on the background of the surveys, uses of data, operational concepts and definition of terms used.
PSA enjoins the public to support the conduct of the quarterly Crops Production Survey by providing truthful information when being interviewed by the hired Statistical Researchers. Rest assured that all data obtained from the sample respondents shall be kept in strict confidentiality and are not used for purposes of taxation, investigation or regulation as provided under Republic Act 10173 or the Data Privacy Act of 2012.
