The Philippine Statistics Authority–Cordillera Administrative Region (PSA-CAR) conducted the 2023 Operational Training on Fisheries Surveys Second Level Training at Ritz Hotel, Legarda Road, Baguio City last March 7-8, 2023.
The PSA generates statistics for freshwater municipal aquaculture and municipal inland fishing. The Quarterly Inland Municipal and Quarterly Aquaculture Surveys are conducted in sample aquaculture farms and sample inland fishing households. The respondents of the surveys are aquafarm operators, fishermen or other knowledgeable members of the household. Generated quarterly fisheries production is included in the quarterly data review process of the PSA at the provincial, regional, and national levels. After the data validation, preliminary estimates are made available to data users.
Fisheries is one of the economic sectors of the country. The statistics generated through the conduct of fisheries surveys serve as input to the compilation of national accounts; estimation of performance of agriculture; policy making and program implementation; and, research and studies.
PSA-CAR Chief Statistical Specialist Aldrin Federico R. Bahit, Jr. welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance and uses of agricultural statistics as basis for the implementation of plans and programs for evidenced-based policy and decision-making. He added that every training level is important, especially now that PSA is gearing towards enhancing the survey processes. He advised everyone to take care of one’s health while performing their increasing duties and responsibilities in the PSA.
PSA enjoins the public to support the conduct of the quarterly fisheries surveys by providing truthful information when being interviewed by the hired Statistical Researchers. Rest assured that all data obtained from the sample respondents shall be kept in strict confidentiality and are not used for purposes of taxation, investigation or regulation as provided under Republic Act 10173 Data Privacy act of 2012.
