The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Abra Provincial Statistical Office (PSO) Statistical Specialist II (SS II) Florante T. Bigornia, representing Chief Statistical Specialist Felixberto B. Perdido, attended the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tayum’s Civil Mass Wedding at Poblacion, Tayum, Abra on November 22, 2024. The event was part of the LGU’s fiesta festivities.
The activity started with a procession featuring the Principal Sponsors, 19 couples, and Local Chief Executive (LCE) Hon. Mayor Placido P. Eduarte Jr. and Municipal Civil Registrar (MCR) Mary Anne T. Timbreza. Tourism Officer Marivic Procesa T. Tacanay led the invocation, setting solemn tone for the ceremony. MCR Timbreza delivered the opening remarks, highlighting that this initiative began in 2023. The LGU generously covered the expenses for the couples’ application requirements, wedding veils, and reception. This thoughtful gesture aimed to support couples who couldn’t afford marital rites, ultimately benefiting children born out of wedlock through the legitimation of marriage. LCE Eduarte officiated the wedding rites, which included the exchange of wedding rings, a kiss, ceremonial cake slicing, wine tasting, and the signing of marriage contracts. The couples received cash gifts from their principal sponsors and LCE Eduarte during the “bitor” tradition. SS II Bigornia commenced his message by thanking the LGU of Tayum, LCE Eduarte, and MCR Timbreza for inviting the PSA to participate. He emphasized the significance of marriage and family, offering valuable advice for a successful and fruitful union. Bigornia stressed the importance of the three Ls in marriage: (1) Learn, in which the couples should embrace lifelong learning, adapt to each other’s growth, and evolve together; (2) Lord, in which the couples should place faith and spirituality at the heart of their relationship, which guides their decisions and actions; and (3) Love, in which the couples nurture unconditional love and acceptance, recognizing that it’s the foundation of their union and the driving force behind the joyous celebration. As part of his message, SS II Bigornia discussed the PSA’s mandate under Republic Act 3753, or the Civil Registry Law, which designates the office as the central repository of civil registry documents. He encouraged everyone to give importance to civil registration and register the vital events, such as births, marriages, and deaths, to ensure accurate records for future generations. He concluded by wishing the newlyweds good luck on their lifelong journeys together.
