Number of Registered Deaths in Mountain Province Decreased in the Third Quarter
Based on the result of the tabulation from the Decentralized Vital Statistics System (DVSS) of the Philippine Statistics Authority, registered deaths in Mountain Province reached 231 in the 3rd quarter of 2022. This is 28.48 percent lower than the recorded deaths in the same quarter last year at 323. In 2020 of the 3rd quarter, the figure is at 183.
About Four in Every Ten Deaths in the Province are Registered in Bauko
According to records by municipality, Bauko still recorded the highest number of deaths in the 3rd quarter at 86 which is 37.23 percent of the total deaths listed in the province. This means that about 4 in every 10 deaths in Mountain Province are recorded in this municipality. This is followed by Bontoc at 46 deaths or 19.91 percent of the total and Paracelis at 35 deaths or 15.15 percent. Sadanga registered the least number at just 3 deaths.
In the same quarter of 2021, Bauko listed the highest number of deaths while Barlig registered the least.
A huge decrease in the number of deaths is observed in Bontoc. Its death went down as low as 35.21 percent since its registered deaths of 71 in the 3rd quarter of 2021 dived to 46 in the same quarter this year. Deaths in Bauko declined to 86 from 103 deaths in the 3rd quarter of 2021.
It is also observed that the number of deaths this year in all municipalities decreased compared to last year’s data.
More Male Deaths are Recorded in the Province
Of the 231 deaths in Mountain Province during the 3rd quarter of this year, 53.68 percent are males. Six municipalities recorded more male deaths than their female counterpart with the municipality of Paracelis pushing the overall increase in terms of provincial data.
Sabangan and Sagada are the only 2 municipalities that recorded more female than female deaths but with just 1 difference. Barlig and Tadian recorded the same number of deaths by sex in the quarter.
In 2021, male deaths are still higher than the female deaths.

About Six in Every One Hundred Deaths in the Province are Less than 1 Year Old
Of the total registered deaths in the province for the 3rd quarter, 13 or 5.63 percent are less than 1 year old. This is 30 percent higher than the recorded deaths of less than 1-year old babies in the same quarter of 2021 at 10 deaths. According to registration status of these baby deaths, all are registered timely.
About One in Every Ten Deaths is 76 to 80 Years Old
According to age group, most of the deaths in the 3rd quarter are from age group 76 to 80 years old at 26 deaths or 11.26 percent are listed in this age group. This is followed by age group 81 to 85 years at 10.39 percent.
Of the 76 to 80 years old whose death certificates are registered in the 3rd quarter; 57.69 percent are females.
In the same quarter of 2021, the highest number of deaths are recorded still by age group 76 to 80 years with 34 deaths.
About Seven in Every Ten Deaths Occur at Home
According to place type, majority of the deaths in the 3rd quarter occurred at home with 163 deaths or 70.56 percent. This is lower by 24.88 percent compared to the deaths that happened at home in the same quarter last year.
Bauko is the highest contributor of deaths that occurred at home with 25.77 percent followed by Bontoc at 20.86 percent. All deaths in the municipalities of Natonin, Sabangan, Sadanga, and Tadian happened at home.
By sex, 53.99 percent of the deaths that occurred at home are males while 46.01 percent are females.
About Three in Every Ten Deaths are Attended by Hospital Authority
Of the registered deaths in the 3rd quarter of 2022, 66 or 28.57 percent are attended by hospital authority. Majority of which are registered in Bauko and only 5 municipalities in the province have deaths who are attended by hospital authority.
