The vegetables production of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) decreased by 2.4% from 432,912.8 MT in 2022 to 422,506.8 MT in 2023. Abra, Benguet, and Mountain Province registered decreases while Apayao, Ifugao, and Kalinga posted increases in production (Table 1).

 

 

A total of 218,214.8 MT (51.6%) of the overall regional production of 422,506.8 MT in 2023 came from other vegetables, while 204,291.9 MT (48.4%) came from major vegetables (Table 2).

Benguet was the top producer, accounting for 85.5% of the total regional vegetables production with 361,311.6 MT. Mountain Province came second with 7.8% share, followed by Apayao with 3.4%, Abra with 1.5%, and Ifugao with 1.4% (Table 2).

With an output of 1,787.3 MT, Kalinga produced the smallest output of the region's total vegetables production, accounting for 0.4% share of the total vegetable production (Table 2).

 

MAJOR VEGETABLE CROPS
Mongo, cabbage, eggplant, tomato, onion, camote, cassava, ampalaya fruit, and tomato are among the major vegetable crops.

In 2023, the region's major vegetables output was 204,29198 MT, accounting for 48.4% of the region's total vegetables production (Table 3).

 

 

With 164,113.2 MT of produce, Benguet consistently ranked first in major vegetables production, accounting for 80.3% of the total regional output. This was followed by Mountain Province with 11.2% share, Apayao with 6.2%, Abra and Ifugao both with 1.0% share each, and Kalinga with the smallest share of 0.3% (Table 3).

 

 

The total vegetable production of Cordillera recorded a volume of 422,506.8 MT in 2023, with an estimated harvested area of 26,803.7 hectares. Other vegetables dominated the region's vegetables production, contributing 51.6% of the total vegetables production.

Benguet province produced the most vegetables with 361,311.6 MT, from an area harvested of 18,913.3 hectares. Mountain Province came in second with 32,764.0 MT (5,489.1 hectares area harvested), while Kalinga had the lowest vegetables production in the region with 1,787.3 MT (362.7 hectares area harvested) (Table 4).

 

 


OTHER VEGETABLE CROPS
Benguet contributed 90.4% to the region's other vegetable crops production. Mountain Province came second with 4.5% share, followed by Abra with 1.9%, Ifugao with 1.8%, and Apayao with 0.8% share. The province of Kalinga had the least percent share of the other vegetable crops production of the region with 0.6% (Figure 1).
