This Special Release presents data on death certificates registered at the Local Civil Registry Offices in the ten municipalities of the province for the third quarter of 2020 and 2021 and forwarded to the Office of the Civil Registrar General. Data were tabulated from the DVSS. Thus, statistics presented here is preliminary.
Number of Registered Deaths in Mountain Province is Soaring High
Based on the result of the tabulation from the Decentralized Vital Statistics System (DVSS) of the Philippine Statistics Authority, registered deaths in Mountain Province reached 323 in the 3rd quarter of 2021. This is alarming since it is 75.54 percent higher than the recorded deaths in the same quarter last year at just 184. In 2019 of the same quarter, the figure is at 219.
About Three in Every Ten Deaths in the Province are Registered in Bauko
According to records by municipality, Bauko recorded the most number of deaths in the 3rd quarter at 103 which is 31.89 percent of the total deaths listed in the province. This means that about 3 in every ten deaths in Mountain Province is recorded in this municipality. This is followed by Bontoc at 71 deaths or 21.98 percent of the total and Paracelis at 45 deaths or 13.93 percent. Barlig registered the least number at just 9 deaths. Same trend is observed in the same quarter of 2020.
A huge increase in the number of deaths is observed in the top 3 populated municipalities. Deaths in Bauko soared to as high as 101.96 percent since its registered deaths of 51 in the 3rd quarter of 2020 jumped to 103 in the same quarter this year.
Same trend is seen in Paracelis as its 17 deaths in the 3rd quarter of 2020 increased to 45 or 164.71 percent on the same quarter this year. In like manner, deaths in Bontoc rose to 47.92 percent.
More Male Deaths are Recorded in the Province
Of the 323 deaths in Mountain Province during the 3rd quarter of this year, 50.77 percent are males. Five municipalities recorded more male deaths than their female counterpart with the municipality of Bauko pushing the overall increase in terms of provincial data.
Bontoc is the only municipality with more female deaths. Of the total deaths in this municipality, 61.97 percent are females. In 2020, male deaths are still higher than the female deaths.
About Four in Every Ten Male Deaths are Registered in Bauko
Comparing the records of the different municipalities of Mountain Province in terms of male deaths, 61 male deaths or 37.20 percent are registered in Bauko. This means that about 4 in every 10 male deaths happened in Bauko. Bontoc came next at 27 male deaths and Paracelis at 26 male deaths.
For female deaths, Bontoc registered the highest number. About 3 in every 10 female deaths in the province are listed in this municipality.
About Nine in Every Ten Deaths are Timely Registered
According registration status, 92.57 percent of all the registered deaths in the province for the 3rd quarter are timely registered. Death records in Besao, Natonin and Sadanga are all timely registered.
The highest number of late registrations are recorded in Paracelis.
Male Deaths Have a Higher Proportion in Terms of Late Registration
According to sex and registration status, more late registration is seen for male deaths. Of the total male deaths registered in the 3rd quarter, 9.15 percent are late registration.
For female deaths, late registration is at 5.66 percent.
About Five in Every Ten Deaths are Married
According to marital status of the dead, 148 or 45.82 percent are married; 35.29 percent are widow/ widower; and 18.89 percent are single.
A different trend is seen for Bontoc. Of the 71 deaths recorded in this municipality, 32 or 45.07 percent are widowed/ widower; 40.85 percent are married and the remaining percentage are single.
According to sex, about 6 in every 10 male deaths are married. For female deaths, one half of them are widowed and the highest number is registered in Bontoc.
About Three in Every One Hundred Deaths in the Province are Less than 1 Year Old
Of the total registered deaths in the province for the 3rd quarter, 10 or 3.10 percent are less than 1 year old. This is 0.72 percent lower than the recorded deaths of less than 1-year old babies in the same quarter of 2020 at 3.82 percent. According to registration status of these baby deaths, all are timely registered.
Twelve in Every One Hundred Deaths are Aged 85 to 89 Years Old
According to age group, most of the deaths in the 3rd quarter are from age group 85 to 89 years old. 40 deaths or 12.38 percent are listed in this age group. This is followed by age group 80 to 84 years at 11.46 percent.
Of the 85 to 89 years old whose death certificates are registered in the 3rd quarter, 30n percent are males while 70 percent are females. In the same quarter of 2020, the highest number of deaths are recorded by age group 75 to 79 years with 22 deaths.
About Seven in Every Ten Deaths Occur at Home
According to place type, majority of the deaths in the 3rd quarter occurred at home with 217 deaths or 67.18 percent. This is lower by 2.93 percent compared to the deaths that happened at home in the same quarter last year.
Bontoc is the highest contributor of deaths that occurred at home with 22.58 percent followed by Paracelis at 17.51 percent. All deaths in Barlig, Natonin, Sabangan, Sadanga and Tadian happened at home.
By sex, 46.54 percent of the deaths that occurred at home are males while 53.46 percent are females.
About Three in Every Ten Deaths are Attended by Hospital Authority
Of the registered deaths in the 3rd quarter of 2021, 100 or 30.96 percent are attended by hospital authority. Majority of which are registered in Bauko. This is higher by 2.16 percent compared to the same quarter last year.
