The underemployment rate in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) rose sharply from 13.5 percent in July 2011 to 21.3 percent in July 2012 based on the latest Labor Force Survey of the National Statistics Office (NSO). This suggests that one in every five employed persons in CAR was underemployed. The underemployed include all employed persons who express the desire to have additional hours of work in their present job or an additional job, or to have a new job with longer working hours (NSO).
During the same period, the unemployment rate in CAR increased by 0.2 percentage point while the Labor Force Participation Rate declined by 0.4 percentage point. The CAR labor force stood at about 766.6 thousand in July 2012.
