Number of Registered Deaths in Mountain Province is Decreasing

Based on the result of the tabulation from the Decentralized Vital Statistics System (DVSS) of the Philippine Statistics Authority, registered deaths in Mountain Province reached 458 in the 2nd semester of 2022. This was 32.35 percent lower than the recorded deaths in the same semester last year at 677. In the 2nd semester of 2020, the figure was at 431.

About One in Every Three Deaths in the Province is Registered in Bauko

According to records by municipality, Bauko recorded the highest number of deaths in the 2nd semester at 163 deaths or 35.59 percent of the total deaths listed in the province. This means that about 1 in every 3 deaths in Mountain Province was recorded in this municipality. This was followed by Bontoc at 84 deaths or 18.34 percent of the total and Paracelis at 62 deaths or 13.54 percent. Barlig registered the least number at just 12 deaths.

In the same semester of 2021, Bauko still listed the highest number of deaths while Barlig registered the least.

A huge decrease in the number of deaths was observed in Bontoc and Bauko. Bontoc’s number of deaths went down to as low as 46.15 percent since its registered deaths of 156 in the 2nd semester of 2021 dived to 84 in the same semester this year. Deaths in Bauko also declined from 218 deaths last year to 163 this semester of 2022.
 
It was also observed that the number of deaths this year in all municipalities decreased
compared to last year’s data.

More Male Deaths are Recorded in the Province.

Of the 458 deaths in Mountain Province during the 2nd semester of 2022, 55.68 percent were males. Seven municipalities recorded more male deaths than their female counterpart with the municipality of Bauko pushing the overall increase in terms of provincial data. It listed 23 more male deaths than their female counterpart.
 
Barlig, and Sadanga were the only municipalities that recorded more female than male deaths but with minimal difference. Tadian recorded the same number of deaths for both sexes in the 2nd semester.
 
In 2021 of the same semester, male deaths were still higher than the female deaths.

About Four in Every Ten Male Deaths are Registered in Bauko

Comparing the records of the different municipalities in Mountain Province in terms of male deaths, 93 male deaths or 36.47 percent were registered in Bauko. This means that about 4 in every 10 male deaths in the province happened in this municipality.
 
Bontoc came next at 45 male deaths and Paracelis at 34 male deaths.
 
For female deaths, Bauko still registered the highest number at 70 female deaths. This means that about 1 in every 3 female deaths in the province was listed in this municipality. Bontoc came next with 39 female deaths and Paracelis with 28 female deaths.

Almost All Deaths are Registered Timely

According to registration status, 95.85 percent of all the registered deaths in the province for the 2nd semester were registered timely. Death records in Barlig, Besao, Natonin, Sabangan, and Tadian were all registered timely.

The highest number of late registrations was recorded in Paracelis.

Female Deaths Have a Higher Proportion in Terms of Late Registration

According to sex and registration status, more late registration was seen for female deaths. Of the total female deaths registered in the 2nd semester, 4.93 percent were late registration.

For male deaths, late registration was at 3.53 percent.

About Five in Every Ten Deaths are Married

According to marital status of the dead, 214 or 46.72 percent were married; 27.51 percent were widow/ widower; and 25.76 percent were single. A different trend was seen in Sadanga Of the total deaths recorded in this municipality, 53.85 percent were widower/ widow; 30.77 percent were single and the remaining percentage were married.

For the municipality of Tadian, 39.13 percent of its deaths were widower/ widow; 34.78 percent were married; and 26.09 percent were single.

According to sex, about 5 in every 10 male deaths were married.

For female deaths, about 5 in every 10 deaths were widow/ widower and the highest number was registered in Bauko.

About Four in Every One Hundred Deaths in the Province are Less than 1 Year Old

Of the total registered deaths in the province for the 2nd semester, 19 or 4.15 percent were less than 1 year old. This was slightly lower than the recorded deaths of less than 1-year old babies in the same semester of 2021. According to registration status of these baby deaths, all were registered timely.

About Two in Every Ten Deaths are Aged 66 to 75 Years Old

According to age group, most of the deaths in the 2nd semester were from age groups 66- 70 years old and 71- 75 years old at 46 deaths each or 10.04 percent of the total deaths in the province. This was followed by age groups 81- 85 years and 76- 80 years at 9.83 percent and 9.61 percent respectively. Of the deceased aged 66 to 75 years old and over whose death certificates were registered in the 2nd semester, 66.30 percent were males.

In the same semester of 2021, the highest number of deaths was recorded by age group 81- 85 years old with 81 deaths.

About Seven in Every Ten Deaths Occur at Home

According to place type, majority of the deaths in the 2nd semester occurred at home with 309 deaths or 67.47 percent of the total. This was higher by 3.22 percent compared to the deaths that happened at home in the same semester last year.

Bauko was the highest contributor of deaths that occurred at home with 22.01 percent followed by Bontoc at 18.77 percent and Paracelis at 15.21 percent. All deaths in the municipalities of Sabangan, Sadanga, and Tadian happened at home.

By sex, 54.37 percent of the deaths that occurred at home were males while 45.63 percent were females.

About Three in Every Ten Deaths are Attended by Hospital Authority

Of the registered deaths in the 2nd semester of 2022, 142 or 31 percent were attended by hospital authority. Majority of which were registered in Bauko and only 6 municipalities in the province have deaths who were attended by hospital authority.
