Number of Registered Deaths in Mountain Province is 262

Based on the result of the tabulation from the Decentralized Vital Statistics System (DVSS) of the Philippine Statistics Authority, registered deaths in Mountain Province reached 262 in the 1st quarter of 2023. This is 6.43 percent lower than the recorded deaths in the same quarter last year at 280. In 2021 of the 1st quarter, the figure is 303.

About 1 in Every 3 Deaths in the Province is Registered in Bauko

According to records by municipality, Bauko still recorded the highest number of deaths in the 1st quarter at 87 which is 33.21 percent of the total deaths listed in the province. This means that about 1 in every 3 deaths in Mountain Province is recorded in this municipality. This is followed by Bontoc at 38 deaths or 14.50 percent of the total and Paracelis at 36 deaths or 13.74 percent. Barlig and Natonin registered the least number at just 7 deaths each.
 
In the same quarter of 2022, Bauko still listed the highest number of deaths while Barlig registered the least.
 
 
A huge decrease in the number of deaths is observed in Bontoc. Its death went down as low as 44.93 percent since its registered deaths of 69 in the 1st quarter of 2022 dived to 38 in the same quarter this year.
The number of deaths in Tadian and Natonin also decreased compared to the same quarter last year. Deaths in Sagada also decreased but at a very minimal rate.
All other municipalities posted an opposite trend. Their recorded deaths in the 1st quarter this year is higher compared to the 1st quarter of 2022.

More Male Deaths are Recorded in the Province

Of the 262 deaths in Mountain Province during the 1st quarter of this year, 63.36 percent are males. All municipalities, except Natonin, registered more male deaths with Bauko listing the highest difference of male deaths to their female counterpart.
 
Natonin as the only municipality with more female deaths recorded 5 female deaths and 2 male deaths.
 
In 2021, male deaths are still higher than the female deaths.

About 3 in Every 10 Male Deaths are Registered in Bauko

Comparing the records of the different municipalities of Mountain Province in terms of male deaths, 53 male deaths or 31.93 percent are registered in Bauko. This means that about 3 in every 10 male deaths in the province happened in this municipality. Bontoc came next at 26 male deaths or 155.66 percent and then Paracelis at 23 male deaths or 13.86 percent. The least number is registered in Barlig at just 4 male deaths.
 
For female deaths, Bauko still registered the highest number at 34 female deaths. About 1 in every 3 female deaths in the province is listed in this municipality.
 

About 9 in every 10 Deaths are Registered Timely

According to registration status, 91.98 percent of all the registered deaths in the province for the 1st quarter are registered timely. Death records in Besao, Natonin, and Sadanga are all registered timely.
 
The highest number of late registrations is recorded in Paracelis.

Male Deaths Have a Higher Proportion in Terms of Late Registration

According to sex and registration status, more late registration is seen for male deaths. Of the total male deaths registered in the 1st quarter, 9.04 percent are late registration.
For female deaths, late registration is at 6.45 percent.

About 4 in Every 10 Deaths are Married

According to marital status of the dead, 111 or 42.37 percent are married; 30.92 percent are widow/ widower; 26.35 percent are single, and 0.36 percent are divorced.
A different trend is seen in Besao and Tadian. Majority of the deaths recorded in these municipalities are widower/ widow and the least number are single.
 
According to sex, 48.19 percent of the male deaths are married. This means that about 5 in every 10 male deaths in the province in the 1st quarter of this year are married.
 
For female deaths, 48.96 percent are widowed. this only means that about 5 in every 10 female deaths are widowed and the highest number is registered in Bauko.
 
It is also observed that all female deaths in Sadanga during the quarter are widowed.
 

About 4 in Every 100 Deaths in the Province are Less than 1 Year Old

Of the total registered deaths in the province for the 1st quarter, 11 or 4.20 percent are less than 1 year old. This is 0.99 percent higher than the recorded deaths of less than 1-year old babies in the same quarter of 2022 at 3.21 percent. According to registration status of these baby deaths, all are registered timely.

About 1 in Every 10 Deaths is 81 to 85 Years Old

According to age group, most of the deaths in the 1st quarter are from age group 81 to 85 years old at 35 deaths or 13.36 percent are listed in this age group. This means that about 1 in every 10 deaths in the province for the quarter is under age group 81 to 85 years.
 
Of the 81 to 85 years old whose death certificates are registered in the 1st quarter; 60 percent are females.
 
In the same quarter of 2022, the highest number of deaths are still recorded by age group 81 to 85 years with 32 deaths.

About 2 in Every 3 Deaths Occur at Home

According to place type, majority of the deaths in the 1st quarter occurred at home with 178 deaths or 67.94 percent. This is lower by 4.92 percent compared to the deaths that happened at home in the same quarter last year.
 
Bauko is the highest contributor of deaths that occurred at home with 21.91 percent followed by Paracelis at 14.61 percent. All deaths in the municipalities of Barlig, Sabangan, and Sadanga happened at home.
 
By sex, 60.67 percent of the deaths that occurred at home are males while 39.33 percent are females.

About 3 in Every 10 Deaths are Attended by Hospital Authority

Of the registered deaths in the 1st quarter of 2023, 78 or 29.77 percent are attended by hospital authority. Majority of them are registered in Bauko. Meanwhile, all deaths in Barlig and Sadanga are attended by others.
