Number of Registered Deaths in Mountain Province is Decreasing

Based on the result of the tabulation from the Decentralized Vital Statistics System (DVSS) of the Philippine Statistics Authority, registered deaths in Mountain Province reached 952 in 2022. This was 27.16 percent lower than the recorded deaths in 2021 at 1.307 deaths. In 2020, the figure was at 865.

About Three in Every Ten Deaths in the Province are Registered in Bauko

According to records by municipality, Bauko recorded the highest number of deaths during the year at 304 deaths or 31.93 percent of the total deaths listed in the province. This means that about 3 in every 10 deaths in Mountain Province were recorded in this municipality. This was followed by Bontoc at 199 deaths or 20.90 percent of the total and Paracelis at 117 deaths or 12.29 percent. Barlig registered the least number at just 22 deaths.

In 2021, Bauko still listed the highest number of deaths with 426 death while Barlig registered the least with 39 deaths.

A huge decrease in the number of deaths was observed in the municipalities of Bauko and Bontoc. Bauko’s number of deaths went down to as low as 28.64 percent since its registered deaths of 426 in 2021 dived to 304 this year. Deaths in Bontoc also declined from 277 deaths last year to 199 in 2022.
 
It was also observed that the number of deaths this year in all municipalities decreased
compared to last year’s data.

More Male Deaths are Recorded in the Province

Of the 952 deaths in Mountain Province during the year, 54.83 percent were males. Seven municipalities recorded more male deaths than their female counterpart with the municipality of Bauko pushing the overall increase in terms of provincial data. It listed 56 more male deaths than their female counterpart.
 
Barlig, Sadanga and Sagada were the only municipalities that recorded more female thanmale deaths. Sadanga registered the highest number of female difference as it listed 9 more girls than boys.

In 2021, male deaths were still higher than the female deaths.

About One in Every Three Male Deaths is Registered in Bauko

Comparing the records of the different municipalities in Mountain Province in terms of male deaths, 179 male deaths or 34.29 percent were registered in Bauko. This means that about 1 in every 3 male deaths in the province happened in this municipality.
 
Bontoc came next at 109 male deaths and Paracelis at 66 male deaths.
 
For female deaths, Bauko still registered the highest number at 125 female deaths. This means that about 3 in every 10 female deaths in the province was listed in this municipality. Bontoc came next with 90 female deaths and Paracelis with 51 female deaths.

Almost All Deaths are Registered Timely

According to registration status, 95.59 percent of all the registered deaths in the province for 2022 were registered timely. Death records in Barlig, Besao, and Sabangan were all registered timely.

The highest number of late registrations was recorded in Paracelis.

Female Deaths Have a Higher Proportion in Terms of Late Registration

According to sex and registration status, more late registration was seen for female deaths. Of the total female deaths registered during the year, 4.42 percent were late registration.

For male deaths, late registration was at 4.41 percent.

About Five in Every Ten Deaths are Married

According to marital status of the dead, 429 or 45.06 percent were married; 31.24 percent were widow/ widower; and 24.58 percent were single. A different trend was seen in Sadanga Of the total deaths recorded in this municipality, 51.72 percent were widower/ widow; 24.14 percent were single and the remaining percentage were married.

For the municipality of Tadian, 39.78 percent of its deaths were widower/ widow; 33.33 percent were married; and 26.88 percent were single.

According to sex, 54.98 percent of the male deaths were married.

For female deaths, about 5 in every 10 deaths were widow/ widower and the highest number was registered in Bontoc.

About Four in Every One Hundred Deaths in the Province are Less than 1 Year Old

Of the total registered deaths in the province for 2022, 33 or 3.54 percent were less than 1 year old. This was lower than the recorded deaths of less than 1-year old babies in 2021. According to registration status of these baby deaths, all were registered timely.

About One in Every Ten Deaths is Aged 71 to 75 Years Old

According to age group, most of the deaths in 2022 were from age groups 71- 75 years old at 99 deaths or 10.40 percent of the total deaths in the province. This was followed by age groups 81- 85 years and 66- 70 years at 10.08 percent and 9.87 percent respectively. Of the deceased aged 71 to 75 years old whose death certificates were registered this year, 58.59 percent were males.

In 2021, the highest number of deaths was recorded by age group 81- 85 years old with 163 deaths.

About Seven in Every Ten Deaths Occur at Home

According to place type, majority of the deaths in 2022 occurred at home with 650 deaths or 68.28 percent of the total. This was lower by 24.59 percent compared to the deaths that happened at home last year.

Bontoc was the highest contributor of deaths that occurred at home with 20.31 percent followed by Bauko at 19.85 percent and Tadian at 14 percent. All deaths in the municipalities of Sabangan and Sadanga happened at home.

By sex, 53.23 percent of the deaths that occurred at home were males while 46.77 percent were females.

About Three in Every Ten Deaths are Attended by Hospital Authority

Of the registered deaths in 2022, 282 or 29.62 percent were attended by hospital authority. Majority of which were registered in Bauko and only 6 municipalities in the province have deaths who were attended by hospital authority.
