Four Babies born per hour in CAR

 

  • Number of registered live births in the Cordillera Administrative Region summed up to 8,031 with an increase of 9.13% from the same quarter of 2021 with 7,359 births registered.
  • There were 88 babies born daily or almost four babies born every hour, on the average.
  • In comparison to the same quarter last year, four provinces reported a rise in the number of live births that were registered. The highest percentage increase was in Abra with 36.3%, followed by Apayao with 19.9%, Mt Province came in third with 18.5% and Kalinga with 10.7% percent. On the other hand, Ifugao and Benguet had a decrease of 4.5% and 0.6% respectively.
  • Benguet had the most live births reported in the 2nd quarter of 2022 with 1,532, followed by Baguio City with 1,434, Kalinga with 1,406, Abra with 1,048, Mt Province with 903, Ifugao with 890 and Apayao with the lowest registered live births at 818.
  • The province of Benguet had the highest daily average registered live births with 17, Baguio City followed at 15 and Kalinga with 14.  Apayao had the lowest number of daily average registered live births at seven.

Almost 16 babies born daily in Baguio City

  • With a total of 1,434 live births recorded, Baguio City had the most among the cities in the Cordillera Administrative Region, followed by Tabuk City, Kalinga with 982 births registered.
  • The municipality with the greatest number of live births registered in the second quarter of 2022 was La Trinidad, Benguet. Followed by Bangued, Abra with 595 births, Luna, Apayao with 436, followed by Bauko, Mt Province and Lamut, Ifugao with 431 and 268 births, respectively.
  • Among the municipalities in CAR, San Isidro and Danglas in Abra had the least registered live births with one and two  births, respectively.

Benguet has the highest percentage of Registered Births who were Born out of Wedlock in the Region

  • 12 out of the 25  total registered live births in the Cordillera Administrative Region were born out of wedlock.
  • Among the Provinces in CAR, Benguet had the highest proportion of illegitimate babies in the 2nd quarter of 2022 with 30.7%, followed by Kalinga and Abra with 22% and 19.5% respectively. Meanwhile, Ifugao had the least number of illegitimate children born at 8.2%.
  • More than half of the live births registered in the Region were legitimate.

More Male babies are Born in CAR

  • There were 4,207 male babies registered during the second quarter of 2022, making up 52.4% of all births in the Region, compared to 3,824 females, or 47.6%. As a result,  there were 110 men for every 100 women.
  • The sex ratio in the Province of Apayao was 119, higher than the regional average. Following this were Ifugao at 118, Benguet and Kalinga, all of which had the same sex ratio of 111. On the other hand, Mt. Province  had the least sex ratio of 101.

39 out of 50 Live Births are Medically Attended

  • 78% or 6,285 births are medically attended for the 2nd quarter of 2022. Medically attended births are those attended by skilled health personnel such as  Physicians, Nurses and Midwives who has been educated and provide sufficient care during birth.
  • With 3,185 or 39.6% of all registered births, physicians were the most common birth attendants. Midwives came in second with 37%, while, Hilot/Unlicensed Midwives came in third with 8.4%.
  • Almost 2 in every 10 of the registered live births were attended by nurses. While, 1,075 or 13.4% registered births were attended by others.

13 out 50  Births in CAR born to mothers at Ages 25-29 years old

  • 26% or 2,065 registered live births in the Cordillera Administrative Region for the 2nd quarter of 2022 were mostly born to mothers aged 25-29.
  • Ninety two percent or 7,421 babies were born to mothers of the childbearing age of 15-49.
  • A total of 762 or 9.3% of the registered live births in the Region was born to teenage mothers.
