Registered Births Increased by 17.6 percent

  • The number of registered live births in the Cordillera Administrative Region in the first semester of 2022 totaled to 16,548, higher by 17.6% from the 14,074 registered births in the first semester of 2021.
  • Compared to the same semester last year, more live births were recorded in all of the Region's provinces. Mt Province reported the highest percentage increase at 47.5%. Abra came in second with 28.3% and Kalinga third with 23.8%. Benguet had the lowest growth, at 4.4%.

Most Registered Live Births Occurred in March

  • In the first semester of 2022, most registered births in the Region occurred in month of March with 18.4% followed by the month of January with 18%. Meanwhile, the month of April had the least registered live births with 15%.

1st Semester 2022

13 out of 25 babies born in the Region were males

  • There were 8,535 registered live male births in the first semester of 2022, or 52% of all live births. As a result, there were 107 men for every 100 women in the aforementioned quarter. On the average, there were 91 babies born daily or nearly four babies born per hour.

39 out of 50 Live Births were Medically Attended

  • Physicians were the most common birth attendants, attending over 47% of all live births that were registered and reported in the region during the first semester of 2022. It was followed by Midwives  with 15 out of 50 live births. On the other hand, just 2 in every 10 live births were attended by Nurses.
  • Nine in every ten registered live births were attended by tradional birth attendants, which include hilots or unlicensed midwives. While, 2,107 or 13% registered births were attended by others.
  • Among the Provinces in the Region, Benguet had the highest registered births attended by Medical Practioners at 16%. On the other hand, Ifugao  had the least  registered live births at 13  out of 20 live births.

9 in every 10 babies born to mothers of the childbearing age 15-49 yrs old

  • During the 1st Semester 2022, 1 out of 4 babies in the Region were mostly born to mothers aged 25-29.
  • There were 15,052 registered live births born to mothers of the childbearing age of 15-49.
  • For every 100 babies, nine were born to adolesecent mothers aged 15 – 19 yrs old.
  • One baby was born in the Cordillera Administrative Region to a mother aged 54 yrs old.
