Production

Production of palay in the province from July to September 2021 was estimated at 10,301.00 metric tons. It posted a decrement of 22.1 percent from the previous year’s level of 13,226.00 metric tons, the highest output during the same period of 2019 to 2021. (Figure 1 and Table 1)

By ecosystem, majority of the palay production during the third quarter of 2019 to 2021 was produced from irrigated areas. For 2021, it was estimated at 6,346.00 metric tons. This was lower by 33.3 percent from the 9,521.00 metric tons in 2020. Rainfed palay production was estimated at 1,661 metric tons during the period. Likewise, this was lower by 4.1 percent from the previous year’s level of 1,732 metric tons. On the other hand, upland palay production reached 2,294 metric tons, which recorded an increase of 16.3 percent from the 1,973.00 metric tons in 2020. (Figure 2 and Table 1)
 
About 61.1 percent of the province’ production came from irrigated areas, while the remaining 22.3 percent and 16.1 percent came from upland and rainfed areas, respectively. (Figure 3 and Table 2)

Harvest Area
 
Harvest area for the third quarter of 2021 contracted to 3,364.00 hectares or by 18.8 percent from the 2020 record of 4,142.00 hectares. (Figure 4 and Table 1)

Yield per Hectare
 
Palay yield per hectare for July to September 2021 decreased by 4.1 percent, from 3.19 metric tons in the same period of 2020 to 3.06 metric tons. During the same quarter of 2019 and 2020, yield per hectare was constant at 3.19 metric tons. (Figure 5 and Table 1)
 
By ecosystem, the yield per hectare of upland palay improved by 30.2 percent, from 1.36 metric tons during the same quarter of 2020 to its current level of 1.77 metric tons. On the other hand, the yield per hectare of irrigated and rainfed declined by 7.7 percent and 4.1 percent, respectively. (Table 1)
