NSCB-CAR announces the release of individual MDG Watch for each province in the Cordillera Administrative Region, including Baguio City. The MDG Watch is an info sheet prepared by the NSCB showing the progress of the nation, region, province or municipality based on Millennium Development Goals (MDG) indicators. The info sheet presents the MDG indicators that are available, the baseline line data, target rates per goal for each indicator, the latest available data and the probability of achieving each target or goal.
Based on the rates of progress in achieving MDG targets among provinces/city, Kalinga posted the most number of MDG targets that could be attained with 13 out of 22 targets with a high probability of achievement by 2015. Kalinga has made substantial gains particularly in the eradication of poverty and hunger (Goal 1) and the improvement in maternal health (Goal 5). However, like the rest of CAR, the achievement of universal primary education (Goal 2) remains elusive and has a low probability of being achieved in Kalinga by 2015.
Kalinga is followed by Apayao and Mt. Province with 9 and 8 targets on track respectively. Benguet only had 4 out of 22 MDG indicators with a high probability of attainment. The highly urbanized City of Baguio also lags behind with only 6 targets on track.
Except for Kalinga, the rest of the region has a low probability of achieving half or more of its MDG targets by 2015. Benguet faces an uphill challenge with more than two-thirds (68%) or 15 out of 22 indicators having a low probability of attainment.
