This Special Release presents data on birth certificates registered at the Local Civil Registry Offices in the ten municipalities of the province for the fourth quarter of 2020 and 2021 and forwarded to the Office of the Civil Registrar General. Data were tabulated from the DVSS. Thus, statistics presented here is preliminary.
Teenage Mothers Decreasing
Based on the result of the tabulation from the Decentralized Vital Statistics System (DVSS) of the Philippine Statistics Authority, teenage mothers in Mountain Province reached 64 in the 4th quarter of 2021. This is 33.33 percent lower than the recorded teenage mothers in the same quarter in 2020 at 96. In the 4th quarter of 2019, the figure is at 85.
About Five in Every Ten Teenage Mothers are Listed in Paracelis
By municipality, Bauko recorded the most number at 31 teenage moms in the 4th quarter of 2021 which is 48.44 percent of the total teenage mothers listed in the province. This means that about five in every ten teenage mothers in the province are registered in this municipality. This is followed by Paracelis at 14 teenage mothers or 21.88 percent share and the Capital Town Bontoc at 10 or 15.63 percent. In the same quarter of 2020, Bauko is still the municipality with the highest number of teenage mothers.
It is also observed that the number of teenage mothers in Bauko continuously decrease during the 4th quarter of the years 2019 to 2021. Its teenage moms of 56 in the 4th quarter of 2019 decreased to 42 in 2020 and again went down to 31 this year. Meanwhile, there is no recorded teenage mothers for 2020 and 2021 in Barlig.
15-Year-Old Girl- Youngest Mother
The youngest age of a mother that gave birth in the fourth quarter of 2021 is 15 years old. In the same quarter last year, the youngest age of a mother that gave birth is 14 years old.
According to birth order, the youngest mother who already gave birth to her 2nd child is 16 years old. In the same quarter of 2020, the youngest mother who bore her 2nd child is 18 years old.
Females Slightly Outnumbered Males in Terms of Registered Births
According to sex, it is noted that there are more females that were born in Mountain Province in the 4th quarter of 2021 at 419 births. This is 5.81 percent higher than the male births at 396.
The high difference of female births to their male counterparts in the municipality of Bauko contributed to the higher number of female births in the province. It registered 20 more females than males while Natonin has 12 more girls than boys. Sadanga has also 11 more girls than boys.
It is also observed that Bontoc posted the highest number of male difference as it registered 16 more males than female births while the rest of the municipalities have minimal differences.
About Eight in Every Ten Births are Registered Timely
Of the 815 registered births in the province in the 4th quarter of 2021, 693 births or 85.03 percent are registered timely. This means that about 8 in every 10 births were registered timely. Bauko having the most number of births recorded 371 timely registered births. Two municipalities- Barlig and Tadian have more late than timely registrations.
Paracelis on the other hand has the highest proportion of late registration for birth. Of the 116 births registered in this municipality, 35 births are late registrations. This is the highest number of births that are registered late compared to the different municipalities in the province.
According to sex, 85.86 percent of the male births are registered timely while 84.25 percent for females. In Natonin and Sadanga, all male births are registered timely while all female births in Barlig are registered late.
About Three in Every Ten Births in the Province are Illegitimate
Of the 815 births in the province in the 4th quarter of 2021, 253 births or 31.04 percent are illegitimate. This means that about three in every ten babies was born out of wedlock.
Categorizing by sex, illegitimate births are slightly higher among female babies than males. 31.50 percent of all the female births registered are illegitimate. In comparison, 30.56 percent of all male births are also born to unmarried parents.
Of the different municipalities, four in every ten births in Paracelis are illegitimate while all births registered in the quarter in Barlig are legitimate.
About Three in Every Ten Births are First Born
According to birth order, 29.57 percent are first born children. This translates to about three in every ten births in the province in the 4th quarter are first born. In addition, 26.63 percent are 2nd born and 21.72 percent are third born babies.
It is also observed that there is one who gave birth to her 15th child and this is recorded in Paracelis; for her 12th child in Bauko and for her 11th child in Paracelis again.
In addition, there is a 21-year-old girl who gave birth to her 4th child and a 22-year-old woman who bore her 5th child.
About Eight in Every Ten Births in the Province Are Attended by a Physician
Of the total number of births registered in the province, 76.93 percent are attended by physicians; 5.52 percent are attended by midwives and 3.31 percent are attended by nurses. The remaining percentage are either attended by hilot and others.
About Three in Every Ten Mothers Who Gave Birth is 25 to 29 Years Old
Of the total women who gave birth in the 4th quarter of 2021, 25.89 percent are under the age group 25 to 29 years old. This is followed by age group 20 to 24 years old at 22.33 percent and age group 30-34 years old at 20.74 percent.
According to single year, the highest number of mothers who gave birth this quarter are those aged 27 years old at 53 births. This means that about 6 in every 100 women who gave birth this quarter are aged 27 years.
It is also good news that there were no children aged 10-14 years old who gave birth this quarter.
