This Special Release presents data on birth certificates registered at the Local Civil Registry Offices in the ten municipalities of the province for the second quarter of 2020 and 2021 and forwarded to the Office of the Civil Registrar General. Data were tabulated from the DVSS. Thus, statistics presented here is preliminary.
 
Teenage Mothers for Second Quarter in Mountain Province Decreasing
 
Based on the result of the tabulation from the Decentralized Vital Statistics System (DVSS) of the Philippine Statistics Authority, teenage mothers in Mountain Province reached 47 in the 2nd quarter of 2021. This is 27.69 percent lower than the recorded teenage mothers in the same quarter in 2020 at 65. In the 2nd quarter of 2019, the figure is at 106.
 
About Four in Every Ten Teenage Mothers are Listed in Bauko
 
By municipality, Bauko recorded the most number at 18 teenage moms in the 2nd quarter of 2021 which is 38.30 percent of the total teenage mothers listed in the province. This means that about four in every ten teenage mothers in the province is recorded in Bauko. This is followed by Paracelis at 15 teenage mothers or 31.91 percent share and the Capital Town Bontoc at 7 or 14.89 percent. Same trend is observed in the same quarter of 2020.
 
While most of the municipalities decrease in the number of teenage mothers, Paracelis recorded the opposite trend. Its teenage moms in the 2nd quarter of 2020 increased to 36.36 percent in 2021. It is noted that Barlig, Besao and Sadanga have no recorded teenage mothers for the quarter.
 
 
 
14-Year-Old Girl- Youngest Mother
 
The youngest age of a mother that gave birth in the second quarter of 2021 is 14 years old. Same age is registered as youngest mother in the same quarter of 2020
 
According to birth order, the youngest mother who already gave birth to her 2nd child is 16 years old and for her third child is 19 years old.
In the same quarter last year, the youngest mother who bore her 2nd child is 17 years old and for her third child is another 17-year-old girl.
 
Males Slightly Outnumbered Females in Terms of Registered Births
 
There were more males that were born in Mountain Province in the second quarter of 2021 at 397 births. This is 3.78 percent higher than the female births at 382.
The high difference of male births to their female counterparts in Paracelis and Bauko contributed to the higher number of male births in the province. Paracelis registered 28 more males than females while Bauko has 19 more boys than girls.
 
It is also observed that Bontoc posted the highest number of female difference as it registered 32 more females than male births.

Three in Every Four Births Are Timely Registered
 
Of the 799 registered births in the province in the second quarter of 2021, 585 births or 75.10 percent were timely registered. Bauko having the most number of births recorded 300 timely registered births. Three municipalities- Barlig, Natonin and Tadian had more late than timely registrations while Sagada has the same number of timely and late registrations.
 
Paracelis on the other hand has the highest proportion of late registration for birth. Of the 156 births registered in this municipality, 73 births are late registrations.
 
According to sex, 75.57 percent of the male births are timely registered while 74.61 percent timely registration for females. For Tadian, all female births are late registration.
 
 
About Three in Every Ten Births in the Province are Illegitimate
 
Of the 779 births in the province in the 2nd quarter of 2021, 221 births or 28.37 percent are illegitimate. This means that about three in every ten babies was born out of wedlock.
 
Categorizing by sex, illegitimate births are slightly higher among female babies than males. 28.53 percent of all the female births registered are illegitimate. In comparison, 28.21 percent of all male births are also born to unmarried parents.
 
Of the different municipalities, four in every ten births in Paracelis are illegitimate while all births registered in the quarter in Barlig are legitimate.
 
Twin Births is at 0.90 Percent
 
According to type of birth, 792 babies or 99.10 percent of all the births in the province in the 2nd quarter of 2021 are single. The remaining 0.90 percent are twin births.
 
About One in Every Four Births are First Born
 
According to birth order, 23.75 percent are first born children. This translates to about one in every four births in the province in the 2nd quarter is first born. In addition, 27.47 percent are 2nd born and 20.41 percent are third born babies.
 
It is also observed that there is one who gave birth to her thirteenth child and this is recorded in Paracelis.
 
Two in Every Three Births in the Province Are Attended by a Physician
 
Of the total number of births registered in the province, 65.85 percent are attended by physicians; 4.62 percent are attended by midwives and 3.08 percent are attended by nurses. The remaining percentage are either attended by hilot and others.
 
About One in Every Four Mothers Who Gave Birth is 25 to 29 Years Old
 
Of the total women who gave birth in the 2nd quarter of 2021, 26.06 percent are under the age group 25 to 29 years old. This is followed by age group 20 to 24 years old at 20.54 percent and age group 30-34 years old at 18.10 percent.
 
According to single year, the highest number of mothers who gave birth this quarter are those aged 26 and 28 years old. It is also noted that there are two girls aged 10 to 14 years old who already gave birth in the 2nd quarter of this year.
