     This Special Release presents data on birth certificates registered at the Local Civil Registry Offices in the ten municipalities of the province for the fourth quarter of 2021 and 2022 and forwarded to the Office of the Civil Registrar General. Data were tabulated from the DVSS. Thus, statistics presented here is preliminary.

Number of Teenage Mothers Increasing

Based on the result of the tabulation from the Decentralized Vital Statistics System (DVSS) of the Philippine Statistics Authority, teenage mothers in Mountain Province reached 100 in the 1st quarter of 2022. This is 98.08 percent higher than the recorded number of teenage mothers in the same quarter of 2021. In the 4th quarter of 2021, the figure is at 64 while in the 1st quarter of 2020, the record is at 112 teenage mothers.

About Eight in Every Ten Teenage Mothers are Listed in Bauko and Paracelis

By municipality, Bauko and Paracelis recorded the most number of teenage moms at 41 each in the 1st quarter of 2022. The registered births in these 2 municipalities comprises 82 percent of the total teenage mothers listed in the province. This is followed by the Capital Town Bontoc at 8 teenage moms or 8 percent. In the same quarter of 2021, Bauko is still the municipality with the highest number of teenage mothers.

Comparing the number of registered teenage mothers in Bauko in the 1st quarter for 2020 to 2022, the 54 teenage moms in this municipality in 2020 decreased to just 25 in 2021 but soared to 41 this year. Meanwhile, Sabangan is the only municipality with no registered teenage mothers for the 1st quarter of this year.

 
 
13-Year-Old Girl- Youngest Mother
 
The youngest age of a mother that gave birth in the first quarter of 2022 is 13 years old. In the same quarter last year, the youngest age of a mother that gave birth is 14 years old.
According to birth order, the youngest mother who already gave birth to her 2nd child is 16 years old while the youngest who already bore her 3rd child is 17 years old.
In the same quarter of 2021, the youngest mother who bore her 2nd child is 17 years old while the youngest to give birth for her 3rd child is 18 years old.
 
Males Slightly Outnumbered Females in Terms of Registered Births
 
According to sex, it is noted that there are more males that were born in Mountain Province in the 1st quarter of 2022 at 521 births. This is 6.98 percent higher than the female births at 487.
The high difference of male births to their female counterparts in the municipalities of Bontoc and Bauko contributed to the higher number of male births in the province. Bontoc registered 21 more males than females while Bauko has 12 more males than females.
It is also observed that Sadanga posted the highest number of female difference as it registered 6 more females than male births while Besao has 5 more females than males. Sex difference in other municipalities is minimal.
 
 
Three in Every Four Births are Registered Timely
 
Of the 1,008 registered births in the province in the 1st quarter of 2022, 756 births or 75 percent are registered timely. This means that 3 in every 4 births are registered timely. Bauko having the most number of births recorded 419 timely registered births. Five municipalities- Barlig, Natonin, Paracelis, Sabangan and Tadian have more late than timely registrations.
Paracelis on the other hand has the highest number of late registrations for birth. Of the 204 births registered in this municipality, 131 births are late registrations. This is far higher compared to the births registered late in the different municipalities in the province.
According to sex, 75.05 percent of the male births are registered timely while 74.95 percent for females. In Tadian, all male births are registered late while all female births in Barlig are registered late too.
 
 
About Three in Every Ten Births in the Province are Illegitimate
 
Of the 1,008 births in the province in the 1st quarter of 2022, 273 births or 27.08 percent are illegitimate. This means that about three in every ten babies was born out of wedlock.
Categorizing by sex, illegitimate births are slightly higher among male babies than females. 28.79 percent of all the male births registered are illegitimate. In comparison, 25.26 percent of all female births are also born to unmarried parents.
Of the different municipalities, about four in every ten births in Bontoc are illegitimate. Meanwhile, all male births registered in the quarter in Sadanga and Tadian are legitimate while no illegitimate female births in Barlig.
 
About Three in Every Ten Births are First Born
 
According to birth order, 28.67 percent are first born children. This translates to about three in every ten births in the province in the 1st quarter of this year are first born. In addition, 26.88 percent are 2nd born and 20.14 percent are third born babies.
It is also observed that one mother gave birth to her 12th child in the municipality of Besao; and another for her 10th child in Natonin.
In addition, there is a 23-year-old girl who gave birth to her 4th child; a 25-year-old woman who bore her 5th child; and a 26-year-old woman who gave birth to her 6th child.
 
About Seven in Every Ten Births in the Province Are Attended by a Physician
 
Of the total number of births registered in the province, 67.06 percent are attended by physicians; 5.06 percent are attended by midwives and 3.27 percent are attended by nurses. The remaining percentage are either attended by hilot and others.
 
About One in Every Four Mothers Who Gave Birth is 25 to 29 Years Old
 
Of the total women who gave birth in the 1st quarter of 2022, 24.70 percent are under the age group 25 to 29 years old. This is followed by age group 30 to 34 years old at 22.32 percent and age group 20 to 24 years old at 19.35 percent.
According to single year, the highest number of mothers who gave birth this quarter are those aged 25 years old at 58 births. This means that about 6 in every 100 women who gave birth this quarter are aged 25 years.
The oldest mother who bore a child this quarter is 49 years old.
 
 
     Live Birth- the complete expulsion or extraction of a product of conception from its mother, irrespective of the duration of pregnancy, which after such separation, breathes or shows any other evidence of life, such as beating of the heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary muscles, whether or not the umbilical cord has been cut off or the placenta is still attached.
