Production

Corn production from January to June 2022 was estimated at 16,123.14 metric tons. This was lower than the output a year ago by 2,679.86 metric tons or 14.3 percent. A continuous downtrend in production was observed during the reference semester from 2020. (Figure 1 and Table 3)

The bulk of corn production for the 2022 first semester was produced during the second quarter at 14,264.65 metric tons or 88.5 percent. (Figure 2, and Tables 1 to 3)
 
Nearly 100.0 percent of corn production during the three-year reference period was shared by yellow corn. (Figure 3 and Table 3)

Harvest Area
 
For the first semester of 2020 to 2022, corn harvest area was more than 4,200 hectares, of which the large part came from the second quarter. (Figure 4, and Tables 1 to 3)

Yield per Hectare
 
Yield per hectare during the semester declined to 3.8 metric tons or 14.2 percent from 4.43 metric tons in 2021. (Figure 5 and Table 3)
 
By quarter comparison, yield per hectare during the 2022 first quarter was higher than the second quarter of the same year. On the other hand, yield for the first quarter of 2020 and 2021 was lower than the second quarter of the same years. (Figure 5, and Tables 1 and 2)

CONCEPTS AND DEFINITIONS
 
Crop Production- refers to the quantity produced and actually harvested during the reference period. It includes those harvested but damaged, stolen, given away consumed, given as harvester’s and thresher’s shares, reserved, etc. However, it excludes those produced but not harvested due to low price, lack of demand and force majeure or fortuitous events, etc.
 
Harvest Area - refers to the actual area from which harvests were realized. This excludes crop area that was totally damaged. It may be smaller than the area planted.
 
Types of Corn
Yellow Corn - type of corn used generally as feed grains. It includes all types of corn other than white.
 
White Corn- type of corn used primarily for human consumption.
 
Metric ton - refers to a unit that is being used which is equal to 1,000 kilograms.
