This Special Release presents data on construction statistics from approved building permits. The figures are based on the results of the tabulated data from collected approved building permits.

Number of Constructions
Number of constructions increased
The total number of constructions from approved building permits for the year 2022 reached 432. This indicates an annual increase of 13.4 percent from 381 total number of constructions in the previous year. The number of constructions increased at an annual rate of 87.7 percent in 2021. (Table A)
Residential buildings had the highest number of constructions
By type of construction, residential buildings reported the highest number of 298 constructions or 68.98 percent of the total number of constructions in 2022. It registered an annual increase of 28.4 percent from the previous year’s level of 232 constructions (Table A). Majority of the total residential constructions were single-type houses with 283 (94.96%). (Figure 1)
The non-residential type of construction was the second highest in terms of number of constructions at 119 or 27.54 percent of the total number of constructions in 2022. This type of construction declined during the year at an annual rate of 12.5 percent. Most of the non-residential constructions were commercial buildings with 83 (69.74%). (Table A and Figure 1)\

Addition, which refers to any new construction that increases the height or area of an existing building, and alteration and repair of existing structures contributed 1.85 percent and 1.62 percent, respectively, to the total number of constructions in 2022. Compared with their respective annual rates in 2021, addition to existing structures recorded an annual decline of 20 percent, while alteration and repair posted an annual increase of 133.3 percent. Kalinga had the highest number of constructions in the region
Kalinga recorded the highest number of constructions with 432 constructions or 30.7 percent share to the total constructions in CAR for the year 2022. Completing the top three were Apayao with 357 constructions (25.37%) and the City of Baguio with 235 constructions (16.7%). (Figure 2)

Value of Constructions
Total value of constructions increased
In 2022, the total value of constructions amounted to PhP 1.35 billion, indicating an increase of 8.9 percent from the PhP 1.23 billion value of constructions recorded in 2021. (Table A)
Residential buildings recorded the highest value of constructions
Residential building constructions valued at PhP 0.75 billion accounted for 55.55 percent of the total value of constructions in 2022. This represents an increment of 52.1 percent from the PhP 0.49 billion construction value recorded in 2021. Among residential constructions, single-type houses had the highest value of constructions at PhP 0.67 billion (89.9%). (Figure 3, and Table A)
On the other hand, the construction value of non-residential buildings amounted to PhP 0.55 billion or 41.34 percent of the total construction value registered in 2022. This reflects a decline of 18.7 percent from the PhP 0.68 billion value of constructions reported in the previous year. Among non-residential constructions, institutional-type buildings posted the highest value of constructions at PhP 0.25 billion (46.04%). (Figure 3, and Table A)

The construction value of addition to and alteration and repair of existing structures were recorded at PhP 0.02 billion (1.69%) and PhP 0.01 billion (1.4%), respectively. For addition, the value of construction declined at 58.9 percent compared with the previous year while for alteration and repair an increase at 344.3 percent was recorded as compared with the previous year. The City of Baguio and province of Kalinga collectively contributed more than half to the total value of constructions in CAR.
The combined shares of the City of Baguio and Province of Kalinga in terms of value of constructions amounted to PhP 3.78 billion (67.37%). The top three in terms of value of constructions were:
1. City of Baguio, PhP 2.43 billion (43.2%)
2. Kalinga, PhP 1.35 billion (24.05%)
3. Benguet, PhP 0.60 billion (10.7%)

Floor Area
Reported total floor area of constructions increased by 3.1 percent
The reported total floor area of constructions in 2022 was recorded at 0.10 million square meters. This translates to an annual increase of 3.1 percent compared with the 0.09 million square meters floor area of constructions in 2021. (Table A)
Residential buildings comprised more than half of the total floor area of constructions
Residential constructions accounted for 0.064 million square meters or 62.22 percent of the total floor area of constructions in 2022. It reflects an annual increment of 44.8 percent from the 0.043 million square meters in 2021. (Figure 5, and Table A)
On the other hand, non-residential buildings recorded 0.036 million square meters or 35.79 percent of the total floor area of constructions in 2022. This indicates an annual drop of 27.3 percent compared with the previous year’s floor area of 0.050 million square meters. (Figure 5, and Table A)
