Private construction statistics from approved building permits relate to data on new constructions and additions, alterations and repairs of existing residential and nonresidential buildings and other structures undertaken in all cities/municipalities of the country.
Construction statistics revealed 274 new private constructions in the Cordillera region in the third quarter of 2016. These constructions had a total area of 61,065 square meters worth PhP 626.3 million
About four in five new building constructions in the region were residential buildings comprising 215 new houses for dwelling purposes. These constructions were valued at PhP 446.7 million with total floor area of 45,635 square meters.
New non-residential buildings, which includes commercial, institutional and agricultural among others, shared 15.0 percent of the new building constructions. Additions, alterations and repairs done to existing buildings comprised only 6.6 percent of the constructions.
Building constructions were highest in Benguet with 172 units constructed valued at PhP 496.5 million with floor area of 46,066 square meters. Additional 49 units were built in Apayao province valued at PhP 22.0 million and total floor area of 3,193 square meters
Additional multiple-occupancy houses built in Baguio City-Benguet area
- Out of the total residential building constructions in the region, 205 units were designed for single occupancy. These constructions were valued at PhP 408.0 million with combined area of 41,287 square meters. About three of five of these houses were built in the province of Benguet with total floor area of 32,257 square meters.
- More duplex/quadruplex units were constructed in Baguio City and Benguet area in the reference quarter, with total area of 879 square meters valued at PhP 9.9 million. Six new apartment/accessoria units were also installed with floor area of 3,469 square meters valued at PhP 28.8 million. No unit of this type of occupancy was built in other provinces for the said period.
Non-residential building constructions valued at PhP 165.3 million
- There were 41 non-residential constructions in different parts of the region during the reference period with a total floor area of 15,393 square meters valued at PhP165.3 million.
- Twenty-three (23) new commercial buildings were built in CAR with total floor area of 8,299 square meters valued at PhP 74.5 million. Additional 16 institutional buildings were also constructed except in Abra and Mountain Province.
- An additional 280 square meters were added to the existing industrial buildings in Benguet and was valued at PhP 5.3 million. No similar building was constructed in other provinces.
Additional 7,386 square meters built for trade
- Among commercial units built in the region, 14 more stores were constructed with total floor area of 7,386 square meters valued at PhP 59.3 million.Benguet province added 192 square meters for accommodation during the period valued at PhP 2.3 million pesos.
- Other commercial buildings account for 34.8% of the total constructions for the quarter, with floor area of 721 square meters valued at Php 13.0 million.
New industrial buildings constructed in Benguet
Additional factory and repair/machine shop were constructed in the province of Benguet with combined floor area of 280 square meters valued at Php 5.3 million. For this quarter, no additional industrial buildings were constructed in other provinces.
More schools, churches and hospitals and similar structures built
- The new institutional buildings constructed in the region had combined floor area of 6,814 square meters valued at PhP 85.5 million.
- Construction works for new school buildings were done in the provinces of Benguet and Kalinga with total floor area of 3,919 square meters valued at PhP 51.6 million.
- Religious structures like churches were also built in Benguet, Kalinga and Apayao during the reference period while new hospitals and similar buildings were constructed in the provinces of Ifugao and Kalinga.

Other residential constructions consist of school or company staff houses, living quarters for drivers and maids and guardhouses.

Agricultural buildingsare buildings used to house livestocks, plants and agricultural products such as barn, poultry house, piggeries, stables, greenhouses and grain mill.

Buildingrefers to any independent, free-standing structure comprised of one or more rooms or other spaces, covered by a roof and enclosed with external walls or dividing walls, which extend from the foundation to the roof.

Floor area of buildingrefers to the sum of the area of each floor of the building measured to the outer surface of the outer walls including the area of lobbies, cellars, elevator shafts and all communal spaces in multi-dwellings. Areas of balconies are excluded.
Total value of constructionrefers to the sum of the cost of building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and others. The value is derived from the approved building permit and represents the estimated value of the building or structure when completed.
