Data on biths presented in this special release were obtained from the Office of the City/Municipality Registrars through out the region and submitted to the Philippine Statistics Authority-Regional Statistical Services Office Cordillera Administrative Region (PSA-RSSO CAR) through the Decentralized Vital Statistics System (DVSS) 2021 of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Provincial Offices (POs) from the Cordillera Region. Information presented included births registered in 3rd quarter 2020. Figures presented herein are still preliminary and may differ in the final counts.

Number of registered live births  decreased

  • The number of registered live births in the Cordillera Administrative region for the 3rd quarter 2021 recorded a total of 7,807, a decrease of 1.5 percent compared to the same quarter last year.
  • The Province of Kalinga recorded the highest occurence of registered live births in the 3rd quarter 2021 with 1,551.
  • Followed by Benguet with 1,445 and Ifugao with 920 registered live births.
  • Apayao recorded the least number of live births among provinces with 690.
  • Provinces of Abra and Benguet posted decreased in registered live births from this quarter as opposed to the same quarter last year.

Baguio City had the highest registered live births 

  • Among the cities/municipalities in the Region, Baguio City had the highest registerd live births with a total of 1,635.
  • Tabuk City, Kalinga followed with 906 registered live births.
  • There were 13 municipalities in the region that recorded the lowest registered live births ranging from 1 to 5. Of which, one municipality registered 5 biths, five registered four births, four registered 3 births, two registered 2 births and on registered 1 birth.

More male babies are born than female

  • Male babies recorded a total of 4,085 contributing 52.3 percent share to the total births in the region, while 3,722 females born in the 3rd quarter of 2021. This resulted to a sex reatio of 110 males per 100 females for the said quarter.

Physician most preferred Attendant at birth in the Region

  • There were a total of 7,807 registered live births that were attended by Health Practitioners, such as Physicians, Midwives, Nurse and hilot/unlicensed midwives.
  • Physicians topped the list of attendants at birth with 3,275 registered live births.
  • Midwives followed with 2,900 registered live births, hilot/unlicensed midwives with 1,534 while nurses attended to 98 registered live births.

Live Births in the Region mostly to born to mothers aged 25-29

  • 6,813 or 78.3 percent of babies were born to mothers of the child bearing age of 15-49.
  • Nearly 25 out of every 100 babies in the Region were mostly born to mothers aged 25-29.
  • There were 608 babies born to teenage mothers nearly 8 percent of all births in CAR.
  • The Province of Kalinga registered the highest number of births to teenage mothers with 2 percent.
  • Almost 1 percent out of every 100 babies were born to mothers below 15 years old.
