Registered Deaths in the Region Decreased

  • There were 10,374 recorded deaths in the Cordillera Administrative Region in 2022. This showed a drop in death occurrence of 23.46 percent compared to the 2021 figure of 13,554.

 

  • An average of 28 persons died daily or one person died every hour in the Region.

 

  • The number of deaths registered in the Region from 2013 to 2019 showed a slightly increasing trend, with the exception of the years 2017, 2020, and 2022.

Deaths peak in the Month of January

 

  • During the year, mortality was at its peak in the month of January with registered deaths at 1,063 or 10.2 percent.

 

  • The month of July posted the least number of registered deaths with 708 or 6.8 percent.

Four out of every twenty-five Deaths Occurred in the Province of Benguet

  • In terms of the number of registered deaths by place of occurrence, Benguet had the highest number of registered deaths with 2,627, followed by Baguio City at 2,275.

 

  • The province of Apayao had the least registered deaths occurred at 840 recorded deaths.

More deaths among males are recorded than among females

 

  • Registered deaths in the Cordillera Administrative Region revealed more death occurrences among males which accounted for 56 percent, while 4,529 or 44 percent recorded deaths for females. This resulted in a sex ratio of 129 male deaths per 100 female deaths.

Registered Deaths by Registration Status

  • The registration status for 2022 is shown in Figure 5.  At the Regional level, 9,408 or 90.69 percent of the registered deaths were timely registered, those whose deaths were registered within 30 days after the occurrence.

 

  • Across areas, the percentage of timely registered deaths ranged from 84.10 percent in Kalinga to 95.59 percent in Mountain Province.

The Least Registered Deaths in the Region Occurred in the Municipalities of Abra

  • The province of Abra has the municipalities with the least registered deaths in the region ranging from 7 to 19 deaths.
