95% of women in CAR receive antenatal care from skilled providers

  • Nationwide, 94.0 percent of women received antenatal care (ANC) from a skilled provider for their recent birth. Midwives were the most common ANC service providers with 50.0 percent, followed by doctors with 39.0 percent and nurses with 4.0 percent. Almost 3.0 percent of the women did not receive ANC for their most recent birth.
  • In CAR, 95.0 percent of women received ANC from a skilled provider for their recent birth. Doctors were the most common service providers with 55.0 percent, followed by midwives with 33.0 percent and nurses with 8.0 percent. Almost 2.0 percent of the women did not receive ANC for their most recent birth.

95% of live births in CAR are delivered by skilled maternal health providers

  • In the Philippines, 84.0 percent of live births were delivered by a skilled provider. The majority of births were delivered by a doctor with 49.0 percent, followed by a midwife with 30.0 percent.
  • In CAR, 92.0 percent of live births were delivered by a skilled provider. The majority of births were delivered by a doctor with 71.0 percent, followed by a midwife with 14.0 percent.
  • Other delivery assistance category includes traditional birth attendant/hilot, barangay health worker, relative/other, and no one at all. In the country, 16.0 percent of live births were delivered under this category, while 8.0 percent of live births were delivered in the region.

85% of childbirths in CAR are delivered in a health facility
  • In the country, 78.0 percent of births were delivered in a health facility: 55.0 percent of births were delivered in a public facility, and 23.0 percent in a private facility. Meanwhile, one in five births were delivered at home.
  • In the Cordillera region, 85.0 percent of births were delivered in a health facility: 77.0 percent of births were delivered in a public facility, and 8.0 percent were delivered in a private facility.

95% of women in CAR receive postnatal care; 86% for newborns
  • In the Philippines, 86.0 percent of women had a postnatal check during the first 2 days after their recent birth and 86.0 percent of newborns also received a postnatal check.
  • In CAR, 95.0 percent had a postnatal check during the first 2 days after their recent birth while 86.0 percent of newborns received postnatal check.

49% of women in CAR experience problem accessing health care
  • Among women in the Philippines, 54.0 percent had at least one problem accessing health care, while 49.0 percent of women in CAR experienced this.
  • Generally, the most common problem was getting money for treatment at 45.0 percent. This was followed by the problem of distance to a health facility with 22.0 percent at the national level, and at 24.0 percent at the regional level (CAR).

Antenatal care is the care that women receive during pregnancy that helps ensure healthy outcomes for women and newborns [USAID].
 
Postnatal care includes women and newborns who received a check from a doctor, midwife, nurse, barangay health worker, or traditional birth attendant/hilot
 
Skilled provider includes doctor, nurse and midwife.
 
Survey reference period and coverage:
a. Women aged 15 to 49 years
b. Live births in the 5-year period before the survey
c. ANC: women with live births (recent birth) in the 5-year period before the survey
d. PNC: women who gave birth in the 2 years preceding the survey
