THE MEN AND WOMEN OF IFUGAO

The number of registered live births in Ifugao reached 3,617 in 2021. There were more registered male live births with 1,862 than females with 1,755. 

The sex ratio was at 106 which means that there were 106 male live births for every 100 female live births. (See figure 1)

In 2017, there were about 1,176 marriages that were registered in the province. Most of the bride (39.54%) and groom (30.27%) belonged to the age group 20-24 years old. About 28.74 percent of the bride were aged 25-29 years old. And 36.48% of the groom were aged 25-29 years old. Brides and grooms that marry at age 50 and over had shares of 1.53% and 0.77%, respectively. (see figure 2)

There were 1,209 registered deaths that happened in the province in 2021. About 56% of the deaths were males and the remaining 44% were females.  (see figure 3)

The results of the 2015 Census of Population (POPCEN 2015) showed that the total population of the Province of Ifugao reached 202,802 with 48.3 percent women and 51.7 percent men. This translated to a sex ratio of 100 women for every 107 men.

In Table I, Ifugao female outnumbered male in older ages 70-79 and 80 years and over. The number of youths in Ifugao aged 15 – 24 years in 2015 reached a total of 42,024 comprising 20.75 percent of the province's total population of which 48.57 percent were women and 51.43 percent were men.

As of August 1, 2015, the household population in Ifugao totaled 202,519 persons, of which 33% comprised the young age group. The old age group comprised only 5% of the province's household population, while those in the working-age group comprised 60%.

 

The overall dependency ratio of the province was 61 persons in 2015. That means that in every 100 persons in the working-age group, 61 persons belong to the young and old age groups. In theory, roughly half of the population is a working-age, supporting the other half of the population, and are either children or retired.

 

The female dependency ratio of the province was 63 persons. Out of this ratio, 54 were young dependents and 9 were old dependents. The male dependency ratio is 59 with 52 persons for young dependents and 7 persons for old dependents.

The Province of Ifugao had a total population of 157,766 aged ten years old and over. Of the total population, ten years old and over, 47.22% were single or never married persons. Meanwhile, 46.03% were married while the rest of the population was categorized as common law/live-in arrangement, widowed, divorced/separated, and had unknown marital status. And among the never-married persons, 43.68% were females while 56.32% were males. (see figure 5)

The Top 5 Religious Affiliations in the Province of Ifugao are shown in Figure 5. Of the total population, the religious affiliation of Roman Catholic including Catholic Charismatic (52.77%) was predominant in Ifugao, followed by Evangelicals (Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches) (21.16%),  Other Protestants (10.44%), Union Espiritista Cristiana de Filipinas, Incorporated (3.90%) and Lutheran Church of the Philippines (3.31%) with more male than female members on such denomination.  (See figure 6)

Ifugao had a total household population of 157,512 aged ten years and over, wherein 95.68% were literate. Of the literate persons, 48 percent were females, while 52% were males. (see figure 7)

Of the total population 5 years old and over (180,372), 11.19% were College Undergraduates, 11.95% were Academic Degree Holders, 1.41% were Post-Secondary Graduates, and 0.28% were Post-Baccalaureate as their highest grade completed. There were more females than males that graduated with Academic Degree Holders,  Post Secondary and Baccalaureate. (Table 2)

Among Overseas Workers, of the total population 15 years and over, 74.67% were women. As for the highest grade/year completed by these overseas workers, there were more women than men in all categories (Table 3).

In 2015, more males in Ifugao aged 15 years old and over were involved in gainful activities with 61.93% (57,046) compared to women with 38.07% (35,066). However, more females than their male counterparts were engaged in groups of Elementary Occupations (63%), Service and Sales Workers (53.87%), Professionals (71.90%), Managers (62.02%), and Clerical Support Workers (70.83%). (see figure 8)
